Flu Shot Linked to Cancer

by Lourdes Salvador

Getting a flu shot almost doubles the chance of getting cancer according to Lankes and colleagues.

In a new study at the Feinberg School of Medicine of Northwestern University, Lankes found that a single flu shot at any time alters the immune system in such a away that it increases the risk of cancer.

Receipt of a flu shot increases the risk of non-Hodgkin lymphoma by 53%, follicular lymphoma by 98% percent, and diffuse large B cell lymphoma by 88%.

It is unclear whether receiving regular annual flu shots under the CDC’s recommended schedule further compounds the risk of cancer over a single dose influenza jab.

Last month, other research was released showing that children who get the flu vaccine are three times more likely to be hospitalized for the flu. Children with asthma are even more likely to be hospitalized when they are vaccinated.

Careful consideration must be given to weight the benefits and disadvantages of the flu shot. All medication have the potential for adverse side effects.

With the H1N1 swine flu shot coming soon, it pays to remember that the vaccine will have little or no short-term testing and absolutely no long-term testing. Several hundred people were paralyzed from the vaccinations given during the 1976 swine flu outbreak.

Is the flu more dangerous than the side effects of the vaccine? Does cancer run in the family? What’s safer? You be the judge.

To ‘shot’ or not to ‘shot’, that is the question.

Is it coincidence that I developed APL Leukemia the same week I got the flu shot during my pregnancy?:'(

This story needs better facts, and specifics as to the size and randomness of the study, and an impartial medical doctors comments among other things. What kind of lame one sided journalism is this? At least try to lay out and refute the opposing viewpoints!

I would love a link to read about their research. I did a search at Feinberg School of Medicine at North Western and nothing came up.

Yes, More information, added sites to support the claims. I want to back up my claim and reasoning as to why I should not get a flu shot (work related) since I have already had one battle with cancer, why should I risk another. But without substantial support I will be forced to get it or be terminated.

In October 2011 I received for the first time in my life to flu shot due to work request. Under extreme hesitation and gutt feeling I did it anyway. In July 2012 I was diagnosed with breast cancer. 3 stage I tumors on the right. Negative genetic testing but maternal grandfather passed from esophageal CA and father passed from bladder CA. I aslo spoke with a nurse prior to my surgery that had the same experience. I am very interested on any research that has been done.

I had the flu shot one year ago and had developed a sore at the injection site that never went away, just seen a dermatologist who took a biopsy of the sore and turns out I have developed Basal cell carcenoma. nice no more flu shots for me managed for the first fifty years without one I guess I can manage the future without one.

Interesting that there has been a report linking lymphoma to the flu vaccine. My father with no prior medical history had rec'd the 1976 flu vaccine. He developed a very high post vaccine fever followed by bilateral leg major swelling and died within a year from lymphoma. His health rapidly deteriorated. No one would admit the vaccine was the cause, however, it was taken off the market due to a large number of side effects? Now after time has past there is a suggestion of lymphoma and the flu vaccine. I have also found other testimonials from families establishing a link. To much of a coincidence! I am also being urged to take the vaccine or risk loosing my job. Oh by the way in1976 40,mil Americans were assured by the govt that the vaccine was safe and necessary. Again, later found to be not so safe!
