Welcome to The Environmental Illness Resource

The Environmental Illness Resource is an information resource and interactive community site for people suffering from a range of chronic illnesses which are poorly understood and for which there is currently very limited healthcare available. We have chosen to group these conditions under the title of 'Environmental Illnesses' and they include Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/Myalgic Encephalopathy (ME/CFS), Fibromyalgia, Multiple Chemical Sensitivity (MCS), and allergies.

We currently have over 2000 pages of news, articles, research abstracts and original content regarding environmental illnesses and the treatment options available. We are currently visited by around 60,000 people like you every month so please get involved, post in the forums, write a blog, or review books and products (see the help section or contact us if you need a helping hand!)

Chronic fatigue syndrome linked to HHV-6 central nervous system infection

A new study suggests that a low-level central nervous system (CNS) infection could play a role in chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS) particularly in relation to cognitive and mood related symptoms.

The study conducted at Jikei University Medical School in Tokyo, Japan, has identified a novel human herpesvirus-6 (HHV-6) protein present in ME/CFS patients which they did not find in healthy controls. They believe it may contribute to cognitive and psychological symptoms often associated with ME/CFS as well as other chronic illnesses.

Common symptoms of ME/CFS which are most likely to have a direct link to the activity of the HHV-6 virus include poor concentration, short-term memory loss, mental exhaustion and depression.

Illness clusters linked to phone masts and Wi-Fi

Sources of microwave radiation such as mobile phone masts and Wi-Fi networks may be to blame for clusters of cancer, depression and other illnesses according to a growing body of evidence.

UK based charity Mast Sanity which campaigns for the safe use of mobile communications networks and radio frequency devices this week issued a press release drawing attention to evidence which links mobile phone and Wi-Fi masts to clusters of ill-health.

In 2000 environmental health scientist Professor Neil Cherry presented evidence to the parliaments of New Zealand, Italy, Austria, Ireland and the EU. Discussing findings from his own research and that of other scientists he warned of significant illnesses and death from these microwave sources.
