Off the Top of My Head .
by Gloria Gilbère, N.D., D.A.Hom., PhD.
You should know:
- The average adult averages five million hairs, of which 100,000 to 150,000 are on the scalp
- Hair is composed of keratin the protein that also makes up the outer layer of skin and nails
- Hair is protein protein deficiency causes thinning, slow growth and loss of luster
- Hair is a reflection of your inward health
If youre like me, a bad hair day not only affects my overall appearance, it is directly connected to my emotional health!
As a natural health practitioner consulting with clients around the world both by telephone and at my office, I am often asked why I require a photo of my client as well as the detailed health questionnaire. The answer is simple your skin and hair are ultimately a reflection of your overall health.
Science validates that vitamins and minerals play a vital role in overall health; your hair is no exception and its role is overlooked and misunderstood. The biggest misconception is that all proteins are the same, especially in powdered protein supplements. Research confirms that the healthiest combination is one in which the protein powder contains whey and milk proteins. In addition, studies show that if whey protein is consumed by itself, it produces too rapid an absorption of amino acids utilizing them strictly for energy production instead of tissue building as well.
Protein deficiency can cause hair thinning and slow growth I know, I was protein-deprived during my life-threatening digestive disorder several years ago and the subsequent generalized allergies. I couldnt tolerate any protein without experiencing a frightening anaphylactic reaction (difficulty swallowing and breathing). My hair fell out in handfuls to the point where it clogged the shower drain daily .not to mention I watched my self-esteem go down the drain along with it.
While I was repairing my digestive and immune system, the only protein my body tolerated without an allergic reaction was a powdered protein drink derived from fresh goats milk. I had written about and recommended goat-milk for many years to my clients now I was personally experiencing the ease in which my body was accepting this source of protein, when no other protein (cow, rice or soy) was tolerated. To this day, after completely recovering from leaky gut syndrome (autointoxication) and the subsequent multiple allergic responses to nearly everything, I continue to make a tasty goat-milk protein shake every morning. I add goat-milk mineral whey (complete food-based mineral and electrolyte replacement), organic wheat grass juice concentrate and my omega oil blend. The nutrition in this drink maintains my blood sugar levels, energy, immunity and stamina for the long 14 hour days that are the norm for me.
Why Goat-milk Protein?
Because when we develop digestive disorders, our liver is also compromised.
Because protein molecules in goat-milk are one-fifth the size of cows milk making it much easier for the digestive system and ultimately the liver to accept and utilize.
Because goat-milk protein is most like human milk and produces a completely healthy ratio of essential body-building blocks including glutamine, potassium and sodium just the way nature intended it.
Because goat-milk has abundant naturally occurring digestive enzymes i.e. protease, amylase, lipase and lactase, perfect for those with compromised digestive systems as well as those seeking to enhance digestion in general.
Maintaining Digestive Health and Enhancing Endurance
Because . we know goat-milk is credited by the healthiest and longest living people for their longevity, ease of digestion, and overall health benefits.
Because bio-available protein will act as a primary constituent of enzymes, hormones and antibodies.
Because goat-milk protein encompasses vital chemicals like immunoglobulins and enzymes.
Because protein is the foundation for muscles, skin, hair, bones, heart, teeth, blood, brains, and billions of biochemical activities performed within our bodies every second 24/7.
As my photo shows (top of the page), my head is again graced with a full, thick and healthy head of hair, albeit greyer for the wear and now covered with a non-chemical herbal hair color to restore my female emotional health if I say so myself, not too bad for a mother of two sons, ages 34 and 36 and grandmother of three! It pays to live what you teach, Naturally.
