Metametrix test results - what a surprise!

#1 2 years, 5 months ago
Hey everyone,

I had Metametrix GI Profile - same as a CDSA and just got the results.

I don't know how completely reliable they are these guys but if these results are accurate well wow!

It shows no clinically significant amount of yeast or fungal!!! Huh???

Lactobacilli and bifidobacteria are quite low.

But I have two types of parasites; one is cryptosporidium and the other one is a \"non human parasite\"

it says: A taxonomy unavailable finding likely indicates an ingested protozoan and not a human parasite.

So I have a cryptosporidium and a non human parasite?

What are the chances that this test is not accurate? Metametrix is supposed to be a reliable lab in the US. They use PCR testing - it seems they cant miss yeast. So if I don't have yeast - hey that is great news!

Does anyone know how to treat cryptosporidium though?

Hi Dechen,

So you got your first results back....now the fun really begins!

Metametrix are one of the best labs out there and have pioneered a lot of functional testing so rest assured you are spending your money with the right people.

With respect to your results, I have said this to another member on the forums recently that a CDSA/GI Profile alone is not a good indication of whether you have intestinal Candida overgrowth, sorry to say.

When people have Candida making them ill it is often because of overgrowth in the lower small intestine (the ileum) and they get so sick because toxins are readily absorbed from there.

Now, the stool hasn't formed by this point in the digestive system (that's the job of the colon) so analysis of a stool sample may find no Candida/yeast at all (no matter how good the lab) but you could have a raging overgrowth of in the ileum or further up the digestive system. This is the case with me. I also had a CDSA that showed no Candida/yeast but severe beneficial bacteria deficiency, a number of bacterial infections and many other abnormalities. I was later diagnosed with intestinal yeast overgrowth by a test called the 'Fermentation Profile' done at Biolab (UK) in London. This tests levels of ethanol (yeast by-product) in the blood at a specified time after the patient drinks a sugar solution so it is known the results are from small intestinal absorption. I couldn't drink the sugar as it would have made me too ill but my blood ethanol level was still above the reference range just from whatever I had eaten for lunch hours earlier!

I'm not aware of any international labs that do this test but I always recommend to really see if people have problems with intestinal yeast that they do both a CDSA/GI Profile and a urinary organic acids test. This test shows levels of yeast toxins that have been absorbed from the gut and then excreted in urine. High levels therefore indicate intestinal yeast overgrowth - especially if the CDSA/GI Profile indicates low beneficial bacteria.

At least you know for sure you need to be on a high quality probiotic!

In terms of your parasites - did the lab report not indicate any drugs or natural substances that would be effective against those that you have?

Off the top of my head some good natural anti-parasitics are herbal supplements containing black walnut and artmesia. You could discuss using these with your doctor and perhaps drugs if needed.

I hope all that about testing made sense!

So what other test results are you expecting?

Post edited by: Maff, at: 2009/12/12 18:04

Hi Maff,

Thanks for clarifying all this. (I would come more often to the forum, but it is often inaccessible, very frustrating!).

Metametrix results tests for DNA in the stools, it seems to me they should get anything anywhere in large or small intestines? In any case, I got another parasite test from a reputed lab here in Phoenix (Dr Amin); well they found no cryptosporidium. But lo and behold! candida and yeast. They also can detect hyphae but I had none. I can't explain then all this leakage of toxins then - what no hyphae.

So I was very confused; one test shows parasites, no yeast, the other, candida, no parasites!!! Who to believe?

So am treating both. There's a nice product I bought here (they have it all in the health food shops here) Eclectic Intestinal health - black walnut, artemesia and clove. As for candida it is clear that I have very high levels of it.

But believe it or not, I had heavy metal testing. And am heavily lead poisoned! The doctor had never seen such lead levels - they went off the page! I also got cadmium and uranium very high.

They treat heavy metal toxicity here in Arizona with Edta chelation. Apparently there are lots of health benefits. So am going to have IV chelation for a while, so massive amounts of these metals leave my system.

I continue with the vitamins bicarbonate sodium IV. This gives me lots of energy (and detoxes at the same time).

So now I take colloidal silver, homeopathics, aloe (straight from the leaf), powdered vitamin C, multivitamins and minerals. I take probiotics implants at a colon therapist and eat my own home made yoghurt.

Many symptoms are down (burning in the gut, inflammation, etc) but candida is still hanging in there.

I'll let you know my progress if you're interested. When I get the miracle key to this nightmare...

But please make sure this forum is accessible!!!

Hi Dechen,

The Metametrix test itself is likely very accurate. PCR is considered the gold standard. However, every test has to be interpreted and considered in the correct context. Stool tests cannot give an accurate assessment of microbial levels in the small intestine for one very simple reason - the stools are not formed until they reach the large intestine/colon. There is therefore no stool brushing against the walls of the small intestine and picking up microbes as it goes (as happens in the colon).

Basically you should never rely on stool tests alone to determine bacterial, yeast or parasite growth anywhere than in the colon - and even then it's not 100% accurate as you have found with your conflicting results!

Anyway, the Eclectic Health product is a good one for parasites as black walnut, artemesia and cloves are all proven in research studies.

Sounds like you've made a breakthrough with finding the lead toxicity. That could be significantly contributing to your ill health if the testing was accurate. Chelation and detoxification of heavy metals is a complex and potentially dangerous procedure as the metals can just get moved from storage in fatty tissues to more vital tissues and organs such as the kidneys and brain. Please make sure you have done your research and are with the best doctor you can find for this!

It's good to hear you're feeling better already I really hope that continues!

As for the forums - first the site outgrew the server it was hosted on so wasn't working correctly, then there was the process of moving it to a new server, and then 10 days ago it got hacked - so there has been a lot of disruption lately which I apologise for. Things should be running more smoothly now

Please do keep us updated!
