HI disbiosis and BO

#1 2 years ago
Hello guys

I am a 37 years old male suffering from almost 6 years of loose stool and body odor.

got a question,

Since two years ago my stool did became yellowish , thinking of a liver problem i went to various doctor , but none find nothing wrong whit me and at the end they found nothing better than send me to a dietitian.

Now I am traveling in India , and I contract the Traveler diarrhea (TD)twice, the first time I toke ciprofalxin , and soon get better I did noticed my stool went hard and good color after the second day of treatment but i didn't think too much about .
Yesterday I did have the same problem (TD) so i toke levofloxacin , first for avoid a resistance to ciproflaxin , second because I read somewhere I need only one pill for treat the TD , surprising my stool today they look so ok since I do not remember, so i think i have got some kind of disbiosis,

I am planning now to continue the cure for after 3 or five days, maybe i can resolve my issue , but really don't know what is best ho know better what i should do?

P.S. I am deciding myself what to do and take , because in here you can go to the pharmacy and take whatever you want whiteout prescription.

Hi Lontony,

Welcome to the forums

It sounds like small intestine bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) - a form of dysbiosis - is a probable cause of your symptoms given that antibiotics seem to improve your symptoms rapidly.

I think you can rule out liver disease if your doctor has done so and antibiotics (which are quite toxic to the liver) seem to improve symptoms and stool colour and composition rather than worsen them.

SIBO would explain the stool symptoms you mention as an overgrowth of bacteria in the small intestine can interfere with digestion and absorption of nutrients and cause inflammation which could cause both light coloured stools (due to high fat content) and loose bowels.

SIBO can be diagnosed using a hydrogen breath test following consumption of a drink containing the sugar lactulose - although your regular doctor may not do this and you may need to find a doctor practicing functional/integrative medicine or perhaps a nutritionist.

For treatment advice including antibiotic medications, natural alternatives and probiotics take a look at this page: Antibacterial Treatment

Good luck!

Thanks Maff

for your replay , now after five days i really think i am(hope i was) suffering from SIBO, in fact my stool now are perfect since i started this levofloxacin course (now 5 days),
I went trough the link you posted ad I sow that ciproflaxine is one of the most common drug for this problem , but in my case it worked only for a couple of days and not straight away as levofloxacin , now i read also that it takes months for get rid of it , but i don't think is safe for me to continue more than 7 days of antibiotic , so i carry on couple of more days with this antibiotic and then I ordered some Berberine to continue , hoping i can get rid of this problem ,
I cannot believe not one doctor did make me a test like the one you said , i am been suffering from tow years and was so easy as this,
Thanks again Lontony
