Im on Fluconazole at 1200 MG/ Day. For 2 Months:
Candida Albicans is all DEAD, but in my gut stay anothers Yeasts don't susceptibles to Fluca ( I increased the dosage to 2000mg and I don't have signs of Die off)
Now i'm thinking about the proper way to repopulate my gut with friendly bacteria (probiotics don't stay more that 15 days in gut).

Now, my liver values are some altered, and I feel some pain in Liver several times a day.

Hi there,

That is a very high dosage of fluconazole to be on for any length of time. I presume you are taking it under the supervision of a doctor?

The 'azole' drugs are well known for their liver toxicity so if you have signs of liver impairment and your enzymes are elevated then you should discuss it with your doctor immediately. If you are going it alone I would recommend you come off the fluconazole immediately. It's no good getting rid of the yeast/fungus if you end up with liver damage. You will just have swapped one problem for another...and poor liver function can actually contribute to gut dysbiosis!

I would think about switching to a safer antifungal such as nystatin (not absorbed so no effect on the liver) or any number of herbal and nutritional options e.g. garlic, oregano oil, olive leaf extract etc.

You're absolutely right about the limitations of probiotics. Have you considered using fermented foods such as kefir which contain large amounts of naturally occuring probiotic bacteria? You might also want to include sources of prebiotics such as FOS and inulin to help the beneficial bacteria already in your gut to gain more of a foothold against the less friendly species.

Fungal and bacterial dysbiosis are actually my major issue as well. I have been made so sick by their toxins that I cannot tolerate any conventional form of treatment i.e. any antifungal or probiotic substances. My brain and nervous system have been so sensitised that any additional toxins from die-off results in unbearable symtpoms of restlessness, irritability, and generally unpleasant and uncontrolable emotions.

I have therefore been trying to figure out another strategy and MY radical solution involves a faecal transplant in which antimicrobials are taken for a short time and then another person's liquidised faecal matter is passed down a tube and into the gut where the beneficial bacteria it contains should implant and begin to grow (in theory!). I plan to follow this with low-dose naltrexone (LDN) therapy. The purpose of LDN therapy is to bring the various branches of the immune system back into balance so that it can more effectively defend against pathogens without reacting with allergic responses to innocuous substances such as food, pollen, dust etc.

I will report on my own treatment in my blog on the site. Good luck with your issues!

Hi there,

how are yo maff? I agree that that is a very dosage to be taking.
I was meant to see dr georges mouton (as you maff kindly recommended) but I cancelled appt due to financial reasons and shopped around and have found an amazing woman she has office in harley street and office in Poole going 8th nov to see her. She is a clinical nutritionist called Carolyn www.citynutrition.co.uk and www.bclinical.co.uk she had candida me Really bad and due to her own research cured and then went onto study and now runs successful business specialising in me and candida. She going to test my adrenals stool etc and give me meal planners etc! She did say though she never gives her patients caprylkic acid (as I told her I did that for while and made me rough as!!!) and that her candida patients are too weak to tolerate string anti fungals.so I believe we going to work on building me up first and cleanse my liver and sort my bile ducts out as she reckon prob with those!!
Maybe look at her website and she could help you instead of taking those tablets which may be harming your liver?
Wishing everyone a nice happy healthy evening

Not that I want to be your party pooper here, but I was prescribed Fluconazole (Diflucan) in 2000 for very stubborn intestinal candida infection. It was not such high dosage - maybe 200mg a day or so.

Within two weeks, my liver swelled/swellt/swoll (sorry am French, it is 2AM and I can't think of the past tense for this verb). I was severely nauseated and had to stop taking that devil drug immediately!

Ever since then, I have had liver problems - my liver now has a habit of swelling and going into some sort of chemical hepatitis. It happened again once in India (and no, it wasnt viral hepatitis). And another time when I was taking some estrogen or something.

The liver just swells, I get super nauseated and cannot swallow anything at all just hot water and herbal teas.

I was told I have some form of chronic hepatitis - by Tibetan doctors.

I cannot say that it is entirely due to Fluconazole, but this goddamn drug really busted my liver.

Now feel free to massacre yours if you'd like. But there are much better treatments for fungal infections then destroying your liver.

Actually - raw garlic is the best ever - it also boosts your immunity as well as wiping out some candida.

But my latest theory is to detox heavy metals. That improves everything.<br /><br />Post edited by: Dechen, at: 2010/10/24 02:27

LouLou - I'm not all that great at the moment but after finishing my degree I am now focused on updating the the site and having specialist lab tests and treatments I should have had a long time ago. Sorry you were unable to see Dr. Mouton...I have heard he is expensive! Carolyn Leigh is a good nutritional therapist and I hope she can help you. I actually have equivalent qualifications in nutritional medicine as her so for me I don't feel she could tell me anything I don't already know or recommend anything I haven't already tried. Of course, I may be wrong so I'd love to hear how you get on. I'd be particularly interested in how she approaches Candida problems...as I am too ill to tolerate antifungals of any kind. The education and training both myself and Carolyn have had does not really provide adequate answers here. If she has developed a successful solution in her clinic I'd love to hear about it. Best of luck, I hope she can give you the answers you need!

Dechen - Good to see you back on the forums :) How are you feeling at the moment? Are you still planning on coming to the UK? It sounds like we have had identical experiences with medication. Both ciprofloxacin and amoxacillin (both antibiotics) as well as DHEA and hydrocortisone (steroid hormones) did my liver in with modest dosages. I have suffered from varying degrees of chronic hepatitis for almost 10 years now. The problem is that the toxins produced by Candida and other bugs in the gut (alcohols, aldehydes, ammonia, hydrogen sulphide etc) are all toxic to the liver so we end up with subclinical inflammation and dysfunction...so as soon as we add drugs like antifungals and antibiotics to the mix our livers just can't handle it and are easily injured. Natural and non-toxic options are always the best for those in our situation unless medication is absolutely necessary as an aid on the road to healing.

Hi Maff, lovely to bear from you you sound quite low, hope you pick up soon. Ah good glad she is good!! So when you say not enogh adequate what do you mean by that? Suppose depends how I'll the person is and other factors etc and your state of mind. I'm soooo determined to kick this into shape once and for all! My gallbladder area been playing up abit past few days again looking forward to knowing bestthings yo eat as I get sooo confused as to what to as soooo many books out there!! So as a fab nutrionist what would/have you done candida and adrenal wise to help support you and cleanse you?
Si what other treatments would someone like us need other than what a nutrionist could help us with? Just worrier it's all just going to cost more and more money!!!!!! I spoke with optimum health centre but seemed abit to commercialised so fancied going with this Carolyn lady as she seemed lovely to speak too.
Wishing you good health over the next coming days :)
take care all
