Hey,
Acetyl-l-carnitine is a good one as it is involved in energy production and also supplies acetyl groups for the neurotransmitter acetylcholine which is involved in memory and other cognitive functions. I once was prescribed the tricyclic antidepressant amitripyline which has the side-effect of blocking acetylcholine. I took one modest dose and my whole day was a blur...brain fog to the max!
Anyway, I would recommend d-ribose to try to increase energy production which would obviously help the energy-hungry brain work better. I have found tyrosine, particularly in the n-acetyl-tyrosine form, to be helpful for giving more focus and attention and lifting brain fog. This amino acid is used to produce catecholamine neurotransmitters like dopamine and noradrenaline...and is also a building block for thyroid hormones.
Having adrenal and thyroid function assessed by a naturopathic doctor is well worth it since these can influence brain function and brain fog a great deal.
You might also want to investigate a class of drugs known as nootropics which are used to enhance mental performance.
Few things for you to look at there off the top of my head. Hope it helps!

Wow thank you so much for the info! I will look into them! The acetyl-l-carnitine is great but I have a really sensitive nervous system and get overstimulated easily...so sometimes it's just too much and I only take 250 mg at a time . I haven't been able to find a smaller dosage to buy anywhere... But these sound like great options. Again much appreciated!!!

No problem! Glad I could give you a few options to look into
It sounds that you're a lot like me. I also have also struggled with a hypersensitive nervous system that is easily overstimulated. I have found GABA and taurine supplements to be helpful for taking the edge off as well as the herb valerian.
I discovered a key factor in my hypersensitivity was adrenal fatigue and working with a doctor to replace the hormones DHEA and cortisol really helped. If you can get your adrenal hormones checked using a 24 hour saliva test kit that may help to point you in the right direction (see here for more on the test).
Good luck!

Agree with the thyroid function assessment and also, if the fog is associated with stress and/or hormones, you may want to consider HPA axis modulation. That is hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal axis. I've been working with a product that does wonders IF these are the conditions in which the brain fog is rooted. So, if you have other hormone related problems--hot flashes, night sweats, of menopausal/andropausal age (usually 50+), low libido or if you are poor at adapting to physical, chemical, or emotional stressors. Quite often chemically sensitive people need detox support, not energy support, although ribose and carnitine especially acetyl-l-carnitine are good places to start.
The product I have used has 4 different kinds based on your sex and stage of life at www.naturalhi.com. The female product is called Femmenessence and appears to work very well under these circumstances and the website has a great deal of resources including practitioners on staff to help you determine IF the product is right for you.
