Help!
I have been struggling the past 18 mos. with self-diagnosed gut dysbiosis. After many visits with a naturopath, I am still dealing with symptoms of constipation and stomach upset- bloating, cramping, and my face always breaking out with acne. I tried the candida diet for few months, and constipation and other symptoms still persisted. I have an appointment with a functional medicine doctor next week. I know there is a plethora of information and articles to read, but can anyone suggest any ideas or advice in dealing with gut dysbiosis?
Thank you.
Thank you.

Re: Help!
Hi
You really need to have a stool analysis done. this can be arranged through your Natropath. It will tell you what bacteria you have overgrown and if you have any candida and also what the state is with your beneficial bacteria you may have beneficial bacteria missing? It will also tell you the state of your digestion.
You need this to determine your next port of call which is to then kill of bad bacteria and yeasts the stool analysis will tell you best how to do this by listing what things you can take to get rid of the bad guys. hope this helps
I have been following the Specific carbohydrate diet look up scdlifestyle.com
it helps with gut dysbiosis it is strict but works
let us know how you get on and good luck xx

Re: Help!
Agree with Clare. One of the best labs for the testing she describes is Metametrix as they use techniques able to identify both aerobic (oxygen-loving) and anaerobic (oxygen-hating) types of bacteria. Many labs simply try to culture bacteria from a stool sample which is exposed to the air so anaerobic bacteria - which incidentally comprise the majority of gut bacteria - are not detected. Many of us here have had the GI Ecology Profile performed by Metametrix and the results have been very enlightening and helpful. Another highly regarded lab is Red Labs. Google both and you'll find them easily.
Gut dysbiosis is complex, takes many forms and has many contributing factors...so it is hard to offer any advice until you really know what is going on. There's lots here to read on the subject in the articles and news sections as well as in the community so hopefully you'll get some ideas
Oh and the Gut and Psychology Syndrome (GAPS) diet is similar to the SCD which Clare mentioned and also worth looking into.
All the best and do let us know how you get on Siobhan.

Re: Help!
Thank you Maff and Clare so much for the advice. Sorry, it took me a week to write back. I have done the stool test to learn more about this dysbiosis/candida problem. The internet can really drive you crazy reading more and more about this. I am sticking to a candida diet, very strict and taking an assortment of supplements; Glutamine, herbs, slippery elm, and magnesium at night for the constipation. I am hopeful that this 'bloated' stomach will improve with more time. Thanks again and best to you both. Siobhan

Re: Help!
Hi Clare,
Thanks for the message. I will keep you posted when I receive the stool test results. Do you mind me asking, why are you having another stool test done? I am curious, as I hope 1 time will be enough for me.
Do you have a leaky gut from all this? And how has your experience been with this in regard to distended stomach and/or constipation? Ahh, such a pain.
Thanks for the ideas. Take care.
