hi all, i have been doing a candida diet and taking caprylic acid, garlic and probiotics for 6 months now. i'm noticing a difference in a lot of my symptoms, i feel less irritable and foggy-headed
i have read elsewhere recently that you need to rotate the candida meds or supplements you use so the little beasts don't become resistant. is this true? if it is how many different antifungals should you take and for how long each? i'm a bit confused by all this!
thanks!

Hi YeastBeast,
This is an area where there is a lot of confusion and misinformation. Some say you need to rotate antifungals while others say it is better to take more than one at once.
Personally I believe the latter option is the better one. Research has shown that certain antifungal agents used at the same time can have synergistic effects - this means the overall Candida/yeast fighting activity is even greater than if you added their individual activity together.
For example, a recent study found that the common antifungal drug nystatin and oregano oil worked synergistically to give a much more powerful antifungal effect than either alone - abstract of the study
Rotating antifungals may avoid the development of resistance but using multiple antifungals together can do this AND provide much more effective Candida-fighting activity.

hi maff
thanks for the info. what you said really makes sense and the study about nystatin and oregano oil was really interesting.
i guess the question now is which antifungals to use together? i don't have a doc to get rx meds like nystatin from but maybe i should look one up. it would be good to know i was using a combination proven to work.
ill let you know how i get on. keep up the great work!

Hi,
There is an antifungal essential oil combination made by Vitarom. It combines 4 essential oils (tea tree, clove, etc), no yeast can become resistant to that. I assume you can order it from the Vitarom company. I used to take them, they are very very efficient.
Along you could take raw garlic. You then don't need prescription antifungals. Many many herbs have antifungal properties.
Hope this helps you.

Herbs are good and safe.
Majid Ali MD says to rotate with two antifungal med's, two weeks on one, then go to another for two weeks. This is however while on his BEP's.
He has been know to use: Nystatin, Diflucan, Sporanox, Lamisil. And says to avoid Nizoral - due to its large \"toxic\" effect on the liver
