sweetener

#1 2 years, 8 months ago
does anybody know if there is actually safe sweetener that doesn't feed candida? I use Stevia but I have heard that a renowned natural Dr. named Terry Willard claims that it still feeds candida. I have tried xylitol as well but that caused an increase in my symptoms so I think xylitol might be unsafe.

I don't use sweeteners at all as I've lost my sweet tooth - maybe naturally as I've got older or perhaps because I've been avoiding sugar so long due to my own Candida problems. I have tried stevia before though and found it was very sweet but didn't affect my blood sugar.

Your post got me interested so I have just had a quick look at the scientific research and the studies I came across actually conclude that stevia has ANTIFUNGAL activity - and more specifically it is effective at killing Candida albicans.

Here is one such study - http://www.bioline.org.br/request?pr08037

If you go to Google Scholar and search using the keywords \"stevia antifungal\" you'll find a lot more saying the same thing.

So it would seem that stevia is the best option as a sweetener for those with Candida. It both kills the Candida and doesn't cause blood sugar imbalance (which is all too common in those with Candida).

Out of interest could you provide a link to Dr. Willard's claims that stevia feeds Candida?

Thanks.
