hey Maff,
You mentioned fecal transplant (and actually you didn't answer my question: how is it possible to have zero lactobacilli?)
In any case, I checked it out; they do it in Canada. Yes sir, here we have frozen shit! Just kidding.
I called the two doctors who were on the TV report. One does it only for c.difficile patients.
The other one; I talked to the secretary. I would like to know if the doctor does fecal transplant or where I could get them?
And believe it or not the answer was:
You get a referral from your doctor, and come and see the doctor here; he will tell you how to do them yourself.
Oh la la! Mygod, self-fecal transplant???
Actually, it may be possible: first, convince a relative to give you a bucket of shit. Then do a shake with it. Get an enema bag. Evacuate the premises. Proceed. How would it go?
Actually, if that doctor will tell me how, I'll try. At this point, I'll bloody try anything.
Well Maff, if you are interested to pursue that - as I may be - let me know!

Hey,
Wow, great detective work. ou came up with that quickly!
That's the problem I think - most gastroenterologists will only do it for C. difficile. Althought I would think it would be possible to convince many to do it for other problems given enough incentive ($$$). I have diagnoses of IBS and SIBO if they don't go for Candida.
I'd be REALLY interested to hear how this doctor teaches people to do self-faecal tranplants! If you can get a referral from your doctor I think you should at least go for a chat - and report back of course
I wouldn't have a problem convincing a relative to provide the required \"material\" but I have reservations.
My problems (and I suspect yours as well) are in mainly in the small intestine so using the faces in an enema won't help as it will only put the bacteria into the colon.
From what I have heard of faecal transplants they are performed in hospital settings and the patient is first given medication to wipe out as much of the pathogen as possible (C. diff, SIBO bacteria etc). A tube is then inserted up the nose and down into the small intestine. The faecal \"smoothie\" is then pumped through so the probiotic bacteria it contains can colonise both the small intestine and colon. You also need hospital facilities to check the \"donor\" faeces for pathogens and make sure it is safe to use...
I'd be really interested to hear what this doctor you've found has to say though. Maybe you could get him to send some reading material first without even having to get a referral?
Sorry, forgot to answer your Lactobacilli question! It's possible to have no Lactobacilli as this is just one genus of bacteria that make up the ecosystem of the gut which contains many many different types of bacteria, yeast and other bugs. Lactobacilli aren't essential for life...they just help us stay healthy. Besides the CDSA test is by no means 100% accurate so I may have \"some\" Lactobacilli, just not enough to maintain good health.
Plese keep me updated on the faecal transplant stuff!

Post edited by: Maff, at: 2009/10/20 18:25

Sorry Maff,
Nothing good to report on the fecal smoothies inquest plan.
Called the secretary again, doctor won't return calls from a patient (we're too low in social hierarchy I guess); not even emails. And when I asked for an appointment, she said somewhere in December.
I asked if he would do it in case of IBD. She said he would explain when I saw him.
Problem is, Ontario is not next door. And am not strong enough to travel there for no reason. Unless there is a fecal smoothie at destination... For which then, I would take the last shreds of my strenght and take the trip.
But a fecal smoothie am sure would solve a large part of my problems. Probably the whole of my problems.

Hi Dechen,
That is a real shame. I know how you feel about not wanting to take the trip or spend the money unless you are certain you are going to get what you want at the end!
We will have to keep searching in this area. This procedure is likely to be the best option at the moment if we can find someone to carry it out. A series of infusions of a huge amount of a healthy balance of living microflora straight from the gut of another human being should could do in a week what years of probiotic supplements might do...and then only if the product is of good quality and effective which is far from certain. The results in C. difficile at least seem to be nothing short of spectacular.
Well done with your searching so far. I will try to do some of my own as soon as I have a minute.
Take care.

Hey Maff,
The thing is, I feel my situation is getting dire. Every single thing I eat makes inflammation in my gut increase; this is not a joke some solution must manifest itself!!!
I am currently looking at a candida specialist in Toronto - Zoltan Rona. He seems to be quite sensible, and he knows candida. And he's reliable - like not a Mexican clinic.
But all these things take time, they are complicated. It would require that I relocate.
Meanwhile, winter is coming here and I simply have no immune system. I catch a cold opening the fridge door.
So I really am getting completely frantic as to what to do.
Isn't it frustrating to know that there is a very probable cure out there and you can't get it?
Humanity is one stupid lot anyways. They have a procedure that is really remarkable in curing intestinal infection, potentially a whole range of stomach disorder and it's not accessible to large populations. Probably because pharmaceutical companies selling antibiotics for c.difficile intervened or something.
