Hi,
I am hoping someone can help explain some symptoms I have been exepriencing over the past few months. I am a 68 year old man in otherwise good health but recently bought a laptop computer and believe it is making me ill.
When using the laptop I always seem to develop a terrible headache and feel physically drained. I also lose concentration and sometimes become confused. These symptoms seem to be linked to the laptop only. I do not have the same problems with the television or other electrical equipment. Could I still be suffering from electrical hypersensitivity?
I do wear glasses for reading but I do not believe this is causing the symptoms. I have not had problems with desktop computers in the past.
Any answers would be much appreciated.
Thank you,
Paul

Definitely Paul. I've seen a few people now, totally unable to use new lap tops, or even lap tops. Are you sensitive to a using a desk top as well?

Paul. I can completely relate to your symptoms. I get a headache, feel tired, can't think or concentrate, my typing goes to pot and sometimes feel nauseous. The result is I can't get anything really worthwhile done, and it's very frustrating. I get it just the same with my desktop or laptop, but not with any other electrical equipment as far as I know. Anyone got any tips to reduce the effects? I've seen various screen and equipment EMF shields, but don't know if they would do any good.

Hi all,
Stenny, I agree with everyone else, it does sound very much like electrical hypersensitivity you are experiencing.
I'd recommend checking out the Powerwatch and Mast Sanity websites for further information.
Tony, I am dubious about the various EMF shields as the explanations provided are more often than not extremely thin on anything resembling credible science. I don't believe the organisations above recommend their use.
This is a bit of a tangent but I was speaking to a doctor this week who regularly sees electrically sensitive patients and also frequently orders lipid profiles from Johns Hopkins in the US. He told me that electrically sensitive patients typically have problems making myelin, the fatty substance that surrounds and insulates nerves. If that is the case it could be very important indeed!

Hi Maff,
My various symptoms stem from chronic toxic exposures at work which, according to one neurologist have amongst other things damaged the myelin on the fine nerve fibres. One doctor did reckon that the EMF was irritating the nerve fibres, or something like that, so that ties in with what you say about myelin. I think I was a bit dubious about EMF shields as I am about quite a lot of stuff that is sold to people with these largely-unaccepted illnesses desperate for some relief.
Cheers,
Tony
p.s. Thumbs up on the site.
