Has anyone heard of this as a way of reducing the EMF from your computer? As I understand it, there is a cable that connects the earth pin of a mains plug one end to the outer part of a USB plug the other. It is supposed to substantially reduce the EMF by earthing the motherboard etc. which is not normally earthed in a laptop, for example.
I heard about it from a German company, http://danell.de/ but unfortunately the device isn’t on their website. And of course the mains plug would be the wrong shape.
Using any computer gives me big problems, so looking for solutions.

Hi Tony,
This sounds very interesting. Have you managed to learn more about this or heard from electrically sensitive people who have tried it?
I am sat at my PC all day every day so really should look into this further myself!
Thanks,
Maff

Hi Maff,
Well, I made a cable as described. I didn’t notice any effect, but then again I don’t know whether my understanding of the correct way to make it was correct, whether my mains socket is correctly earthed, whether it is doing what it was supposed to, but doesn’t address my particular sensitivity, etc. I would really like to know why it just seems to be computers that I have problems with, and not other electrical equipment. Do they generate a particular frequency or something? It’s difficult to find out, short of spending 100s of £s on a fancy electro smog detector. This subject seems to be poorly understood.
Cheers,
Tony

Hi Tony,
Kudos for actually making this device and giving it a go. It does seem like you would need an electrician's toolbox or an electrosmog detector to actually confirm it was working as intended...other than noticing sustained improvement in symptoms.
I am not an electronics expert by any means but I would guess that computers put out a wider range of frequencies and at greater power levels than many electronic devices. There are a lot of components in the box!
I'm guessing you don't use a wireless router as that would be an obvious target for suspicion...
