Hi,
I was actually going to reply to your previous post and suggest you have this test done. It tests the function of both Phase 1 and most Phase 2 pathways so you get a good idea of how your liver/detoxification system are functioning and specific areas that you can work on with diet, supplements, lifestyle modification etc.
It IS quite expensive but if you can afford it I would certainly recommend you have it done.

No problem
I should have given a bit more detail.
There is the Phase 1 detoxification which uses a large group of enzymes collectively known as the cytochrome P450 system. Each enzyme metabolises different chemicals but Phase 1 is often considered as one system.
Phase 2 is referred to as 'conjugation' which essentially means it sticks certain molecules to toxins to make them more water-soluble so the body can excrete them.
There are six Phase 2 pathways - glutathione conjugation, amino acid conjugation, glucuronidation, sulphation, acetylation and methylation.
The Genova Detoxification Profile tests Phase 1 in general using caffeine challenge and four of the six Phase 2 pathways (it excluses acetylation and methylation).
Although not perfect it gives a very good indication of the balance between Phase 1 and Phase 2 which is an important indicator of exposure to toxins and detoxification capacity.
Please see my blog post on Pathological Detoxifiers.

Hello you two,
Is this a kind of test and how do you call it correctly?
Must I got to a liver specialist for this test or is it done through blood tests by laboratories (can i got to my \"normal doc\")?
Sorry for my non-understanding of the topic but I think that I may be a pathological detoxificier too and I am interested in this test.

Hey Sarah,
This is a test called the Detoxification Profile and is available from independent labs such as Genova Diagnostics. Regular MDs don't generally use these tests so you need an MD who practices environmental medicine or functional/integrative medicine, an ND, or a complementary/alternative medicine practitioner such as a nutritionist.
The test itself is simple. You simply take a few pills (caffeine, aspirin and paracetemol) and then collect a urine sample a specified time later and mail it to the lab.
It can be very useful in improving health as the liver is responsible for so many functions and dysfunction can affect every cell in the body.
