Please can you help?
1st
The washing up liquid I have been using for 3 years, recently changed ingredients and I can no longer tolerate it. Please can anybody suggest a good Washing up liquid for somebody with chemical sensitivity? (preferably based on your own experience and preferably available in UK)
2nd
I have found the section on EIR website with 3 washing up liquids (7th generation Natural Liquid Soap, Bi-O-Kleen Dishwash Liquid and method Dish Soap Liquid). Does anybody know anywhere in UK that any of these can be purchased?
Thank you so much

Hi Virginia,
Sorry to hear the washing up liquid you had been using has had its formulation changed. It's so irritating when they do that!
I use Surcare Sensitive which is fragrance free and available in all major UK supermarkets. It does contain a small amount of formaldehyde but I have been able to tolerate it so it may be worth a try since it is readily available and inexpensive.
I would however recommend you try the Earth Friendly product available online here. It contains nothing other than water, salt and coconut-based soaps if the label is to be believed!
For the time being if you are having to use a washing up liquid that bothers you try using cooler water as this will reduce the amount of chemicals that are vapourised.
Apologies that the washing up liquids listed in the review section of the site are mainly American. I will make it a priority to add more that are easily available in the UK.

Post edited by: Maff, at: 2010/01/05 14:44

Dear Maff,
Thank you so much for your reply.
Unfortunately, the washing up liquid that has given me the problems is the \" new and improved \" Surcare.
I have been using Surcare for ages but the new one has made me ill.
My husband telephoned the manufacturers and their reason for the change in formulation , was that they have been told that they can no longer use the formaldehyde because of the health risks.
The new Surcare has dimethylol glycol and sodium benzoate declared on the bottle and there may be other chemicals in the new Surcare that are not declared on the bottle.
I wonder if you know much about these chemicals ?
Many thanks for your help, your resource is so brilliant and has been a real source of encouragement.Thank you.

Hi, I just happened to find 27 ways to clean with Baking Soda today. Here is the link: www.thenewhomemaker.com/bakingsoda
Just curious: Is baking soda available in the UK? It seems that I heard it is not so easy to buy over there. It is very inexpensive in the US and as the article at the website says, it is useful in many household cleaning needs.
I need to buy some and then, I'm going to try it in my water distiller by putting a layer of soda on the scum and then, pouring hot water on top of it and then, letting it soak. According to the article, the scum should lift up easily after a few hours of soaking.
Oh, another product that I just recently bought is Biokleen BAC-OUT Stain and Odor Eliminator, useful for \"pet stains and odors, carpet stains and odors, laundry stains and odors, and general cleaning of bathrooms, diaper pails, drains, garbage disposals,\" etc. The company is in Vancouver, WA and online at www.bi-o-kleen.com.
By the way, Biokleen makes a product that I have used for months to clean my fresh vegetables. After soaking them in water and Biokleen, I rinse them. Then, I soak them in water with a few drops of colloidal silver and then rinse again after a few minutes. Now, I can blend, juice make a fresh salad with confidence. Ahh...good, clean, fresh, healthy vegetables.
I hope this helps. Sorry if this doesn't help you in the UK.
Blessings,

Hi virginia
I have mcs and I use Dr.Bonners Baby soap almost exclusively. It seems expensive at first but its super concentrated. You can use it for everything from baby to laundry detergent. Ingredients are water olive, coconut, jojoba and hemp oils, citric acid and vitamin E. The baby soap is the only unscented version. I imagine you could order it online if its not in the UK.

Hi Virginia,
I cannot tolerate Surcare products at all, or most of the Ecover range.
However, I am having no problems with ASDA's Eco- friendly washing up liquid. It has no petrochemicals, no artificial colours, fragrances or preservatives.
