Naturopaths vs Naturopathic doctor - not the same!

#1 2 years, 2 months ago
Here is a crucial distinction - I guess \"naturopaths\" are to be avoided. And if you are going to a \"naturopathic doctor\", better check his education.

I guess this can make the difference between regaining your health or not! There is a BIG DIFFERENCE!!!

I didn't know this about the US, but I assume this also is valid for Canada.

Post edited by: Dechen, at: 2010/02/28 20:18

Absolutely right Dechen - a great point to raise!

I believe the naturopath/naturopathic doctor (ND) distinction does also apply in Canada as there are one or two naturopathic medical schools that train NDs (same as SCNM) north of the border.

In most countries anybody can call themselves a 'naturopath' as it is not what is known as a 'protected title'. That's not to say that all naturopaths are uneducated and will automatically be unable to help you but you should do your research and if after an initial consultation you're not happy then move on.

It is important when seeing any kind of health care provider to check their level of education and their qualifications - otherwise you could be putting yourself in harms way and throwing your money away...
