Has anyone tried any of the brain retraining programmes?
I am thinking of the systems that aim to retrain the fight /flight Amygdala part of the brain to calm down. I have read that the Gupta programme has had very good results for sufferers of environmental illness /MCS /CFS /fibromyalgia etc.
The idea behind it seems to make sense to me from my personal history of extreme long term stress, and resulting symptoms, however I'd like to hear if you have any experience of this type of approach to environmental illness..

Hi brighid,
I recovered fully from MCS after suffering severely for years. I had to wear a carbon filter mask when outside, when people came to visit...and even in my own kitchen and bathroom (despite having removed all chemical products). The tiniest exposure to any volatile (airborne) chemical could cause symptoms that kept me in bed for days feeling as if I had a really bad flu.
I believe retraining programmes such as Ashok Gupta's have merit and address an important area of dysfunction in MCS (the amygdala - MCS is mainly neurological)...but I also think they are missing key factors that will prevent recovery in many people. Of course, the Gupta programme will work for some and indeed it has. I have seen numerous positive reports. I hope you are one of those it is able to help. Good luck!
If you are interested the eBook detailing my RADD Protocol for treatment of MCS and other "invisible illnesses" will be available some time early 2012. RADD stands for Removal, Avoidance, Detoxification, and (neural) Desensitization. The Gupta programme would be one type of approach that would fit into the final neural desensitization stage. My protocol is based on my own experience of suffering with and recovering from MCS, my degree studies in nutritional and mind-body medicine, and the latest scientific research into invisible illnesses.
Sorry to hijack your thread and once again good luck with the Gupta programme. Let us know how you get on...

I got no relief from brain retraining. It was a complete waste of my time (tried it for a year and a half). I was worse in the long run because I postponed doing other steps that were helpful to me like seeing a medical doctor who specialized in Environmental Illness.
