AME Doctor Recommendations

#1 3 years, 3 months ago
Hi Everyone,

I'm new to the forum. I got poisoned at work, was bed-ridden for two years and have been slowly getting my strength back.

I'm involved in a messy workers comp lawsuit. I need to see an AME (agreed medical examiner).

I know this is a long shot, but does anyone know a good AME in Northern California (San Francisco area) who deals with EI?

The defense keeps wanting me to go to a particular doctor. When I researched him, he seems to only side with the employer.

I'd really appreciate some help on this. I just need someone who's fair. I've already been ruled as injured, but the percentage of injury is vastly different depending on the doctor I see.

Thanks,

Hi Airy,

Welcome to the forums

I am in the UK and was already unable to work due to chronic fatigue syndrome when I developed EI/MCS so don't have any experience in this area unfortunately.

However I would recommend the following websites as I think they will certainly be able to help you out with this issue.

The first is Multiple Chemical Sensitivity Referral & Resources

And the second is MCS America

I hope these help and please let us know how you get on.

Good luck!

Thanks Maff! Those sites look so helpful. I'll make some calls this week and let you know how it goes.

My attorney proposed that I see a neurologist or physiatrist now (we decided to pass on the other guy). Has anyone had any experience with these kinds of doctors? I'm totally unfamiliar with them. One of my first doctors I saw for MCS suggested a neurologist but I couldn't make it to the office since it was too far to travel at the time.

As for the sites, they even have dentists there which is fantastic. I had a metal filling replaced last year. I thought it was the right thing to do since I had it as a kid. Big mistake. She filled the tooth in with some white stuff and it's been in pain ever since. She redrilled it twice. I think it's the material.

Hi,

Glad those sites look like they could be helpful. They do some great work and have been very happy to help me out on many things.

I believe a neurologist would be a very good idea. If you can can them to do a brain scan then you could end up with visible evidence that is undisputable.

Have a look at this blog post from Jason who has MCS and was able to have a SPECT scan conducted. It clearly shows neurological dysfunction/damage. The defence would have a very hard time dismissing the testimony of a neurologist backed up with SPECT scan images.

Not sure about a psychiatrist - it can go either way with them!

Good luck

Maff,

Thanks for your suggestion to read Jason's blog about the scan. It made me want to cry. I've been feeling like something has really changed in my brain since the exposure. I just feel so different (trouble focusing, dizziness, memory problems). My mind was pretty sharp before all this. I want to get a SPECT scan whether it's through workers comp or not.

I did a google search and saw a brain scan of a person before and after inhaling perfume. There's such a difference.

I called the referral number for MCS America. The man was in a meeting so I'll be calling back. I'll let you know how it goes.

I called back and the gentleman had some trouble finding a doctor in my area. He found one doctor, an occupational health doctor so I hope it works out.

On one of the sites, I found a link to a forum that's local to my area too. I posted there. I hope that I'll hear something back so I'll have a couple options.

Thanks so much for your help Maff. It was really feeling like a dead end before this.
