I am curious..as the last 8 months have gone by..I have noticed every 2 months or so I seem to get more sensitive. Things I didnt smell beofore smell stronger to me. I stay home 99% of the time. I never go in public. We just tore out our old carpet that was bothering me. I have no chemicals in my house at all. Even when I wear my carbon filter mask I can still smell some things.
I am just curious will I ever stay at one point..like even out maybe??
Oh and if anyone has ever used wood flooring in their house...was it ok? I know wood has a smell to it but I am curious if it will work for someone that has MCS?
Thanks
Denise

Hi Denise,
My experience of MCS was that I first became sensitive to perfume and that was my single trigger for a few weeks....then cigarette smoke became a problem. After that I rapidly became sensitive to almost everything else (gas hob/stove, all fragranced personal care and domestic products, vehicle exhaust etc) within a couple of months.
After that it evened out and if I avoided everything and stayed home I didn't have any reactions.
After years of strict avoidance of chemicals, eating and drinking prure foods and water and using various supplements and I began to recover and my recovery was equally as fast as my sensitization.
In your case it seems you are going through the process more slowly. There could be any number of biological reasons for this that would only become apparent if you were assessed by an experienced environmental medicine doctor such as William Rea.
I would definitely expect your condition to even out at some point though and I hope that this comes soon! I'm sure your carpet replacement with wood will help.
I will post this thread on Facebook to see if we can get some more feedback from other MCS sufferers for you.
Good luck and best wishes.

It seems like I have too have gotten worse over this year. My allergist keeps saying and my alternative med MD agrees that there is some underlying cause as to why I haven't leveled off and improved after ridding my environment of the causes of exposure. We are currently testing for lyme's disease and related tick borne diseases. We are also testing for Mercury toxicity now that my amalgams are removed. In the last 4 weeks my energy level is down to 0.5 onthe scale of 0 meaning in bed all the time to 10 feeling as healthy as I can be. It used to be around 3-5.
I seem to be reacting to supplements as well. Sorry I can't be anymore help. Just know you are not alone in this b/c I have felt so alone as has so many of us.
Keep at it and don't give up.

Hi Denise,
It's good that your doctor is ruling out other factors. That always needs to be done first.
What I found was that I got worse first, but then after a couple of years, with a lot of treatments using supplements and energy healing, I improved. Very recently, this summer, I suddenly noticed that I could walk on the street as the cars passed and not have reactions! (unless they were obviously running poorly, or diesel) I also noticed that I can sometimes handle certain dryer vent scents with no mask and no reaction occurs.
We don't know why this has happened but I am thankful. I haven't had any treatments for over a year, so it can't be from that, can it?
We think it just may be that my environment has been much better with the removal of toxins from my home, and I have been wearing a mask outside the home for the last 4 years. Maybe, just maybe, my body is starting to recuperate from the injuries.?...

hi again, Denise,
I went to bed, but I didn't know if I had talked enough about protection in the early times of mcs. You say you live in your place and don't go out much, so you need to be sure that you are safe inside.
Old wood floors should be great for you. Of course, we are assuming that they are well vacuumed after the carpet-removal. I'm guessing that just from the swirling of the dust when the carpet was torn out that that could set you back a week or two.
Your furniture: Is it safe? Do you have one room that is totally safe, with no foam furniture, no carpets, maybe a cotton rug only, no new flooring, no new paint, usually wood or metal furnishings, no man-made materials in furniture or in curtains...
Our bedroom is my safe room. I stuff a towel at the door when I need to be sure that there is nothing coming into the room when I need some time to recover.
If you live with anyone else, does that person shower and change as soon as they enter the home? And do they take their \"outside\" clothes to a room or space where you don't go?
Do any foods make you feel sicker? Do any appliances or lights make you feel worse?
Do you take supplements to help offset reactions? You'll find excellent information here at this site on Dr. Pall's theory as well as others and several different protocols you can pick and choose from. A good site for an easy to read explanation of what supplements do for us is found at www.chemicalinjury.net
It is important to keep a balance about all of this. We don't want our amygdalas going into constant overdrive. So it is important that you have some way to calm yourself at any given time. Prayer, meditation, muscle-testing, yoga.. you can choose whatever works best for you.
The mask that you wear, is it a mask like mine in this picture here with exterior cartridges, which is form-fitting to the face? Or is yours a cloth mask (I have one I call my \"little\" mask) with a carbon filter that fits inside? The little masks are good for small amounts of perfumes and such, but I found I needed the larger mask for full protection. This mask I have has a silicone part against my cheeks, not rubber.
ok, I think I have touched on many of the things we need to consider when things start to spiral. I hope that will help you find what is causing your increased sensitivity. Then you can get on with your recovery, eh. <smile>

Denise, what was under the carpet? Real floor? wood? or subfloor/plywood/chipboard?
