I have had MCS for about four weeks now and I am investigating treatment options. According to the reseach done by James Madison University on MCS, NAET has had some very positive long term outcomes. I have not had any allergies in the past, but my IGE test came back at 126.0, so it shows i have some allergic tendencies. Does anyone have any helpful advice on choosing NAET as a treatment option?

Hi hoogie,
Welcome to the site. Sorry to hear you have recently developed MCS.
In my experience as someone who has suffered from and recovered from serious MCS (I was confined to my home unless wearing a carbon filter face mask for 5 years) I have to say NAET is probably not the best treatment option but may help reduce the overall burden on your body and aid your recovery.
MCS is not primarily an allergic illness but rather occurs as a result of toxic injury to the brain and can be seen therefore more as a neurological illness. Many researchers have noted oxidative and nitrosative stress which occurs when the body's antioxidants are overwhelmed by damaging molecules caused free radicals that can be generated in large amounts by toxicity in the body.
Professor Martin Pall is probably the most well known MCS researcher and has developed a theory of MCS based around the above and had this published in a toxicology textbook recently (which was a big step on the road to acceptance of MCS by the medical mainstream). Professor Pall recommends treatment with a range of potent antioxidant supplements.
See his article: Dr. Pall's Nitric Oxide Theory & Treatment Options for Chronic Fatigue, Fibromyalgia and MCS
And this: Martin Pall Supplements
Alternatively (or in addition to this) many people have reported major benefits from phosphatidylcholine (PC) in its most concentrated forms and/or large dosages. It is also given intravenously by many environmental or nutritionally-focused doctors. It is a fatty substance that makes up a large part of cell membranes and supplementing it can greatly improve the body's ability to detoxify itself of built up toxins.
Before you embark on any such treatments however you need to make sure you are avoiding exposure to the types of chemicals that trigger your symptoms or make you feel worse. This can be a real effort but simply avoiding the traditional household cleaning products, personal care products, perfume and aftershave/cologne, gas, and vehicle exhaust can go a long way. You may also have to look at your home construction and furnishings as a source of chemical exposure however. Also make sure you drink filtered water and eat organic food where possible and wash all fruits and vegetables.
My personal recovery was based on strictly avoiding chemical exposures for about 2-3 years and taking steps to aid detoxification and adress adrenal fatigue (which predisposes us to allergies and sensitivities).
Please read all you can on this site and others and let us know how you get on. We're always happy to help in any way so feel free to post more questions!

Hi Hoogie,
When I first got sick over 10 years ago I did over a year of NAET treatments. I spent over $3000 and was worse after putting all my faith in it because I didn't get regular diagnostic tests to rule out other things. I saw a top practitioner twice a week. It was a total waste of money, time and energy.
NAET uses muscle testing to determine allergies. Even my alternative practitioner, an ND, says don't trust it.
Here's an article about Kinesiology.

Sorry, but after having my money basically stolen doing these alternative treatments. I need to caution you against NAET. Get other tests done first to rule out other problems. If you have a bunch of money to spend, you may want to give it a try, but I feel completely bitter about the whole experience.
For example, if you suspect food allergies, get a CDSA test. I had zero good bacteria in my stomach and the reactions after eating foods can seem like food allergies, but it's not. A good course of probiotics got rid of any digestive problems. It was more effective and less expensive than even 1 NAET treatment.
Good luck.
Begin with avoidance and making your house completely safe for you. Just having a decrease in what you react to can help way more than a lot of treatments out there.
