MCS and Acupuncture 7 years 3 months ago #1

Hi All

I have a friend ill of MCS and FMS, her husband is trying to convince her to do acupuncture sessions to reduce FMS pain, but she has a lot of metal intolernaces and chemicals etc etc....you know...

I think that if she hasn't MCS acupuntcture perhaps helps her, but whith her intolerances, perhaps is better to do nothing whith acupuncture...

do someone know sonmething about it?

thanks for your answers!!

Hi Montseniana,

Welcome to the forums!

I have a couple of suggestions that might be useful to your friend.

A suitable alternative to acupuncture would be acupressure. This therapy is based on exactly the same principles as acupuncture but rather than using needles to stimulate the acupoints on the body the practitioner simply uses their thumbs to apply pressure.

Pamela Reed Gibson, PhD., author of Multiple Chemical Sensitivity: A Survival Guide found acupressure was a popular therapy used by MCS patients and the vast majority rated it as somewhat to very helpful in a large survey she conducted. A numer of studies have also found it reduces fibromyalgia pain.

Alternatively, your friend could contact acupuncturists and ask if they can use needles made of metals that she is not sensitive to. Some metals generally cause more problems than others (nickel is particularly troublesome).

I hope this is helpful.

Post edited by: Maff, at: 2010/07/26 14:58

hi
Those with MCS are, basically, unable to process the toxins in their environment because of damage to their livers and kidneys. Stress is a major factor in their lives because of constant exposure to unavoidable “ordinary” toxins and because of lack of understanding from their co-workers, friends, families, and health care practitioners. The world seems a tricky, dangerous place to people with MCS.
