Hello. I tried using the search feature on the forums but didn't have any luck (seemed like an error), so thought I'd start a new topic. I apologize if this has already been discussed in another topic, if so, please just post the link to the other thread.
My wife and I have had MCS for about 3.5 years now, ever since we lived for 10 months in a rental house (we feel it was infested with some sort of hidden mold). After 10 months we couldn't even enter the house without feeling dizzy and getting headaches, even numb fingers so with doctors orders, we got out of there fast (especially because we had our 1 year old in there with us at the time).
Now, back on topic... we sold our mattress that we slept on in that property, then tried to purchase a new one when we moved into the next house, and immediately had an extremely bad reaction to it so we sent it back to the retailer. We then borrowed an older mattress from family which we slept on for a few years until it hurt out backs. Super long story made a bit shorter... we purchased another new mattress a few years ago and let it off-gas best we could at a relatives place, then recently brought it into our house. After 2 mattress coverings, including one that completely zips around it, a few wool blankets, and we thought it would work. The problem is that we are still being bothered by the off-gassing and are hoping someone out there has figured out a good solution. I have been reading about carbon blankets which are very expensive, but am considering purchasing one to give it a try.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Hi Dave,
Welcome to the forums
Yes, the search problem is a bug with the site. I suffer from ME/CFS and various other health problems and run the site alone. I upgraded and re-designed the whole thing late last year and am still working through the multitude of bugs that resulted. Apologies for the inconvenience.
It seems like you have done everything right in terms of seeking a mattress you and your wife can both tolerate. If you let your new purchase off-gas for a period of time on the order of a few years then I would be inclined to say you have done your best! You could speed up the off-gassing by placing the mattress outdoors in direct sunlight but obviously this depends on the climate where you live and the available outdoor space.
The carbon blankets are reportedly very helpful but expensive, as you say. Another member was recently planning on purchasing one. Perhaps they will join in the discussion and might know of somewhere that offers them for a reasonable price.
Good luck!
