Taurine

#1 11 months, 1 week ago
I just read the article on MCS treatments. www.ei-resource.org/treatment-options/tr...nsitivity-treatment/

One thing that has helped me exponentially has been Taurine supplements. Nearly ten years ago I was reading a book called the Liver Cleansing Diet, looking for ways to avoid needing gall bladder surgery. In passing, the author mentioned that chemically sensitive people are often deficient in taurine. It is not expensive so I tried it. Within three weeks I was able to go out in the world almost as freely as anyone else. The intestines are supposed to manufacture taurine, which the liver then uses in the detoxification process. My intestines don't manufacture enough taurine. I take 500 mg each morning. If I notice I'm more sensitive (such as after a respiratory illness), I take 1000 mg.

Hi reader99,

Thanks for sharing your story with us. Fantastic to hear how effective taurine has been for your MCS. Hopefully other MCS survivors will have a similar response. I was able to overcome my MCS in a similarly rapid fashion but it was supplements of the adrenal hormone DHEA that worked for me.

Interestingly, like DHEA, taurine also acts to calm brain activity and reduce the hypersensitivity of the neurons to volatile chemicals associated with MCS. Like you say, taurine is also vital for detoxification of such chemicals - so could potentially help in MCS via both mechanisms.

There is actually an information/review page for taurine on the site which you can find here. Don't want to push your generosity in sharing your experiences reader99 but it would be great if you'd post a quick review about how taurine helped your MCS over there too

Always good for those stuck in the despair of MCS to hear positive news!
