I'm looking for a doctor who knows about MCAD as I'd appreciate a second opinion by someone knowledgable. I see systemic mastocytosis mentioned but not MCAD on the website. Does any one have any experience with him please.
I would like to see Dr Clive Gratten at Spire Hospital, Norwich but I cannot get a reply to my enquiries and my GP has refused to refer me even on self pay as he believes I'm doctor shopping. He can't understand how difficult it is to live with this condition. If an expert in mast cell disorders says I don't have a problem then I would accept that. I find it hard to accept others dying its all in my head and not carrying out the appropriate tests. Any suggestions on how to get hold of Spire Norwich. I may resort to driving there for info.

Hi BA, I was given the Spire doctor's details by a girl on Masto UK who had seen him (www.ukmasto.org/#sthash.rmZeAOKQ.dpbs ). They also have their own list of UK doctors. It will cost £10 to join - it's a charity & support group. Those with all types of mast cell disorders can join, including MCAD

Your GP sounds incredibly arrogant! If he doesn't think MCAD is causing your symptoms what does he think is? I will often go into GPs with research papers etc ready to ask them why they shouldn't consider that this is the problem. Luckily so far I've not had too many issues.

Did u know Dr Grattan is also in London , I think at Guys & St Thomas's.. Another possibility is to get a private GP to refer you, many private hospitals have their own GPs. But you'd have to book a private appointment with a private specialist thereafter, don't think they can refer to NHS. There's a long wait for Dr Grattan even privately. If I were you I'd get in touch with Masto UK (above) - they have a lot of info ;) Let me know if have any probs getting in there - they do tend to ask a lot of questions for some reason b4 they let you on board, guess they don't want spammers or something. xJodie
