Treatment for Contact Dermatitis

#1 3 years, 2 months ago
Hi All,

I am currently suffering severe MCS and am pretty much house and garden bound. However last week I used a fragrance free hand soap from the green organic people. Within seconds my skin started to blister and despite rinsing off I am left with intermitant red painful hands whn coming into contact with most things.

Does anyone have any guidance if hydroquartizone cream will worsen my MCS. bearing in mind I am sensitive and been fairly sick following everything my doctor has prescribed to date since I became in in July last year:- Eye drops, anti-histamine.
I cannot tolerate any perfumes, sulphites, chemicals in food generally, cigarette smoke, cosmetics washing powder, formaldehyde is my nemesis and at the moment battling with now a great many food intolerances.

I needed this set back like a hole in the head any guidance or experience would be greatly appreciated.

Kindest regards

Hi Sarah,

I have the same problem. Natural products can be just as irritating as chemical ones. I avoid Aloe Vera and Chamomile. It completely aggravates my skin.

What kind of product recommendations do you need? Is it just for cream and soap? I make a tea that I bathe in which helps with the itching and rashes.

Here are some products that I use. Only use a light coat for the creams and sunscreen:

For itching and rashes (use a very light coat, mix with a little water if you need to):

Unda Calendula Cream
www.nutritionsurplus.com/index.cfm/FuseA...CategoryID/1161.html

For Shampoo:
DHS Clear Shampoo (I use this for body wash too)
DHS Conditioning Rinse (it says it's fragrance free, but you can still smell something in it. It doesn't irritate my scalp though)
Coal Tar Shampoo if my scalp is super itchy and irritated (it smells terrible, but it works for me)

For Cream:
Oils of Aloha Kukui Cream, frangrance free

Suncreen:
Mexitan (I tried Trader Joe's, Neutragena, Aubrey, and just about every thing that's meant for sensitive skin. This is the only product that doesn't give me a rash or sting). I just found it this week after searching for years for sunscreen. It has a light- natural smell that goes away after a minute. It's not fragranced, it's just one of the herbals in there.

Here a link to biodegradable sunscreen (Mexitan was the only one without aloe or chamomile):

Good luck. My skin has swelled up so bad that I've had open wounds and it hurt to walk. I'll try my best to help you calm your skin down. I was bed-ridden for 2 years and had food delivered, but can now go to the store for short periods of time if it's not too chemically. I soak in my tea a few times a week or every day when it gets bad.

Good luck,

Airy

Hey thanks Airy,

I will look in to that cream and see if I can source it in the UK.

I asked about the dermetitus as a I was trying not to think about what to have to eat today.

I am intolerant now to much about everything I eat and living on a diet of wheat only crackers and a small selection of fresh veg and that weight is falling off which is the only upside of this frustrating condition.

So how long have you been ill and do you fell you are recovering in anyway.

I appreciate your help and wish you continued improvement

Hey Sarah,

I've been sick for 10 years. I've only been able to find the Unda cream online and through my Naturopath. I order the Kukui Cream from the Oils of Aloha website.

I know the frustration of trying products you hope will work, only to find it's another bottle to throw away because it causes a rash.

I was doing mainly vegetarian and organic foods when I first got sick (this is not the reason I got sick, I got poisoned in a building that I worked in).

I was so weak when I started seeing my Naturapath. She immediately said that even though I'm eating healthy, I needed more protein in my diet to heal. It didn't matter what kind (I started eating more meat and almond butter). I started walking too. I did it very slowly (not that I could go very quickly), any kind of sweating can flare up the skin. I could only do 1 block a day for several weeks until I built up strength again.

I also avoided spices like Cayenne and chili pepper (anything hot like that). Pungent veggies like raw onions and garlic can also get the skin reacting sometimes.

By the way, I dropped a ton of weight too when I first got sick. My Naturapath did a stool test and there was a bacteria in my stomach that shouldn't be there. It was interfering with my body's digestion.

I was so thin and felt awful from being so sick. Once, when I went outside a teen girl walked up to me and ask, \"How'd you get so thin? I want to lose weight and look just like you.\" I was about to gasp. I calmed myself and told her I got poisoned.

I've gained some weight now and have my curves back again.

Post edited by: Airy, at: 2009/03/03 19:58
