I need a place to stay / live- suggestions?

#1 3 years, 2 months ago
Hello everyone- (The fist fight happened two weeks ago.)

I wanted to say that I feel like I know more about this condition than ever before- as well as feeling I know more about what requires to get well- I am having the most difficulty with one thing- WHERE I CAN LIVE, rent, stay, etc. Please help!

My residence is Southern California, however I'm CURRENTLY in northern Colorado staying with my family since the Colorado air is a little cleaner.

Problem is- I get in arguments and even physical fights with my family over this condition. It has improved- but I still need a place of my own that is chemical free...

I would search for hours on the computer- seeing if I could find a place in Colorado or even California, but I can only be exposed to the EMF's off of the computer for a short period of time.

I can't stand to sit in front of the computer hoping I might come up with something... Anyone have any suggestions? Help? Know of anything- or anyone that might know???

My youngest brother (he's 20) and I got in the physical fight. I've asked/begged for him to not put on cologne or body sprays... He agreed to it, but will then do it anyway. Because being exposed often causes anger and rage to occur- I began getting angry with him- he told me to **** off and wasn't going to leave or anything- I grabbed him and was trying to get him to leave the house- he hit me in the mouth and broke my molar, then hit me again- so I punched him in the mouth- he began gushing blood, he began punching me in the head with his rings- I blacked out for a moment... My Mom began trying to get us to break it up... Both of us were gushing blood, him from his mouth and me from my head. I personally was just bawling- it was so upsetting to me. All I've wanted is for people (my family) to understand.

We had to both go to the ER- I got staples in my scalp, and a CT scan of my head- he got 9 stiches in his upper lip and broke his hand.

I tell that to just express how serious this is- I'm fighting for my life. Although I know chemical avoidance is the key- the circumstance is such that I can't really do that. I know what is occurring, what it requires to get better- but can't seem to make that happen.

Thanks guys! Please help!

I used to get a newsletter from the chemical sensitivity network that listed places to live for people with MCS. I will see what I can find and send it to you. If you cant stand the computer send me an address and I will mail it to you. Jo

Hi Jason,

I know exactly how you feel. I was in your position a few months ago and probably will be again soon. It is so stressfull to live with other people who don't understand MCS. I heard of some hotels etc. in the States that are MCS friendly, maybe you could stay somewhere like that till you something more permanent? There was one really good website but I can't remember what it was. I have pretty bad emf sensitivity too so can't stay online long enoguh now to search for it, sorry! If I find it again I'll let you know. Also the website www.planetthrive.com has accomadation listings for people wih MCS in the classifieds section. Good luck, I really hope you find somewhere. Keep the chin up

Here are some more links for places:

Here's the hotel link:
users.lmi.net/~wilworks/ehnlinx/h.htm#Hotels

www.ehcd.com/resources/ecologyhousing.html

www.tikvah.com/cc/eh/ (there's a waiting list, but worth it to get on it)

Links for more housing (the above two are on this list):
mcs-america.org/September2008pg2526.pdf
mcs-america.org/ReferencesandResources.htm

You may want to consider joining a local MCS group.

Here's where I found my local one
www.mcs-america.org/index_files/Forums.htm

I see a listing for hotels in mine. Sorry about the formatting. There's one in Santa Monica.

Mendocino Stanford Inn by the Sea 800 331-8884 stanfordinn.com

Millbrae Millwood Inn 650 583-3935 millwoodinn.com

Muir Beach Green Gulch Zen Center \"The Guest House\"

Pt. Reyes Neon Rose Inn 800 358-8346 neonrose.com

S.F. Parc 55 www.parc55hotel.com/

S.F. The Hotel Triton 800 800-1299 www.hoteltriton.com/

S.F. The Orchard Garden 888 717-2881 theorchardgardenhotel.com

San Francisco The King George Hotel 800 288-6005 www.kinggeorge.com/index2.html

Santa Monica Ambrose Hotel

Willits R. Jacobs 510-303-8954

Yosemite Wawona Hotel 866 875-8456 (radiator heat) www.nationalparkreservations.com/yosemite_wawona.htm

I don't know how far you want to move, but there are a bunch of places in Hawaii that are chemical free rentals. Let me know if you want a list.

You may also want to consider moving into a shelter because of the violence. That sounds really scary. I know there will be chemicals (but it sounds like you're already living with chemicals), but you won't be in fist fights.

I found a group may have emergency MCS housing:

health.groups.yahoo.com/group/mcssafeshe...usa/?yguid=198799829

Good luck!

Airy

edit: I joined the group to see what's there.

Here are some hotels in California and Colorado from their database. It may be worth it to join to post what you're looking for in a long-term rental. There seems to be a lot of activity on there.

Jason! That is absolutely terrible. I run PlanetThrive.com and we have housing listings for MCS. Here is a direct link to that section: http://planetthrive.com/cgi-bin/members/class9990215637405.cgi

Lately, people I know are talking about Colorado and how clean the air is there. Someone in my MCS neighborhood is looking to move to an area southeast of Denver, I believe, where she says the air is much cleaner than here (I'm in the high desert in AZ). It might be Castle Rock but I can't remember....but I just wanted to mention it since you are currently in Colorado, so it might be easy for you to check out different areas in the state. You can use http://www.scorecard.org to get an idea of air pollution in the area - just fill in the zip code of the town you want to get info on. I did it for Castle Rock and it came up really clean.

Craigslist.com is always good for housing, too. You can search for specific keywords. I looked in Denver and put in \"chemical\" and I got this...it actually sounds pretty amazing!!

- Filtered and/or oxygenated water will be available for drinking (although resident's choice of bottled water would be picked up and available if a particular resident wishes to pay the cost thereof). A chlorine filter is on the shower. Smoke alarms are the non-radioactive type recommended by John Ott and others.

- Ranch-style house built in 1957.

- Two bedrooms upstairs will be available to residents, each for single occupancy. Two bathrooms upstairs will be shared (one with a shower, one with a bathtub). One person will be on the premises at all times. Two fire stations are within l-1/2 miles. Fifteen minutes by car in non-emergency from Swedish, Porter, Rose, VA, and National Jewish Hospitals.

- All upstairs appliances are electric. Heat is natural gas forced air (with furnace in basement). Hot water heater (gas) is located in basement.

- Long-term homeowner will be remaining on the premises also, and will provide on-site supervision and monitoring of caregivers. Homeowner has had multiple allergies and extreme chemical sensitivites herself, and this property therefore has been maintained as safe as possible for several years.

- Of course, one need not have allergies or chemical sensitivities in order to prefer organic food and avoidance of chemical exposures. Any residents choosing this healthier lifestyle are welcome.

- Daily laughter sessions will be led by the homeowner (which promote health on many levels). Improv games to exercise brain function, and board game participation will be available. A qualified acupuncturist may be arranged to make house calls if sufficient request for such.

- Regretfully, residents needing personal physical assistance probably cannot be accommodated, beyond providing their own home health aides (i.e. if needing help bathing), if needing lifting or other physical assistance. Also, this property would not be suited to those with any major mental deterioration or illness.

- To receive future information, please email or send your snail-mail address. For further questions, please email your telephone number and preferred time to call.

-If you read this far, thank you for your interest!

GOOD LUCK TO YOU JASON!! Peace, Julie from PlanetThrive.com
