and the response that I was given by the receptionist is that my Vitamin D result is the only one that has come back - is this all I am waiting for?
The result was 45.1 which was deemed 'normal' though the range is 47-144!!!!
Can anyone explain this to me?

Just like we all differ in our own normal ranges...every lab will have a slightly different 'normal' range. Just to make things even more confusing for us!
A vitamin D result of 45.1 certainly isn't considered a deficiency (or even mildly insufficient) by any measure I have seen. Anything above 30 is usually seen as 'ok'. The link below is from The Doctor's Laboratory website and states that 35-50 is considered to be healthy but higher levels may afford more protection from diseases such as cardiovascular disease and cancer. In any case, your result doesn't seem like something to worry about too much.

Hi Maff
Thanks so much for your response - I wonder if you could clarify for me the relevance of a Vitamin D test to FSH - is this all part and parcel? I am confused as the receptionist could not give me any conclusive information as to whether this related to FSH blood test that I had recently taken or not. My Doctor did not tell me that he would be doing a vitamin D test specifically and the form merely said FSH.
Thanks

Hi,
No problem. Didn't want you to worry unnecessarily just because of a high reference range!
I have to admit off the top of my head I can't remember exactly what the relationship is between vitamin D and FSH. All I can say is that there IS a relationship and from a quick search on Google Scholar it looks like vitamin D regulates the action of FSH.
Best to ask your Endo about this though I think

Thanks again Maff
I guess though that if I was being tested for FSH the result coming back would be FSH result and not Vitamin D regardless of whether there was a connection albeit a tenuous one?
When I was in with the Dr his rationale for testing me for FSH was looking back at past tests to see if I had been tested for this. Both he and I looked at the computer screen where he kept saying 'its not my imagination is it, there is no FSH result is there' so perhaps I will be enlightened tomorrow at my appointment...or maybe not.
So far everything coming back 'normal' even in the world of hormones and thyroids is giving me little hope that a conclusion will be found anytime soon and without a fight. Mind you, perhaps the Endo that Dr has said he will refer me to if FSH is normal will look at Free T3 and T4 as I understand these are the most definitive results even if TSH is deemed 'normal' as mine is at 1.40.
Thanks

Hi clothcase,
How did your appointment go? Are you any clearer on the vitamin D and FSH testing? I hope so!
With regards to the thyroid you need TSH along with Free T4 AND T3 to get a good idea of what is going on. There are a lot of steps along the pathway that leads to the effects on the cells that adequate thyroid function should produce i.e. stimulation of the thyroid to produce hormones (TSH), production of T4 and T3 by the thyroid gland, peripheral conversion of T4 to T3, sufficient cell receptor numbers and sensitivity etc. It's no good just looking at one of these in isolation. These are tests that a GP/family doctor can order easily though so you don't need an Endo to get those looked at.
I hope you had a productive appointment with your doctor.
Take care,
