First, after reading Martin Pall's book, I want to add that, in the case of MCS, there is an additional thing to know.
Apparently there is some "training involved", where, over time, the brain dedicate more and more neurones to react to the triggers/chemical. This is what increase the sensitivity and what makes it so hard / long to get rid of the problem.
To cure it you need to be out of harm reach for long enough for the brain to "forget". That can be long, as in a few years...

Anyway slowly, but surely, I felt great benefit from Martin Pall diet. After 30 days I tried to stop for 5 days. Big mistake. Because of the brain training I stressed above, you cannot stop the treatment! One need to be pain free for a loooong time to get rid of MCS. I had to start it all over again.

Martin Pall tratment consist of about 16 capsules a day. After a while I experienced some side effect (tight muscle/cramps and very mild headache, dizziness), it's why I wanted to stop. Bad idea. But by adjusting the dosage just a little bit I made it much more bearable.

After 1 month into I fell mostly well in most circumstances as long as I stay in my little rural areas (which was difficult before, despite the remoteness!). But I still have a few problem.

I had the idea of seeing a local doctor which knows about MCS and he told me that Glutten (in wheat) and Caseine (in milk) intolerance are often precursor of MCS. While I dismissed it at first, as I got better and better (thanks to Martin Pall treatment) I noticed that I still had some mysterious spike of pain/symptoms.
I am now experimenting with Glutten and Casein free diet. The effect is less obvious that Martin Pall diet but it helps me going one more step. I was even able to spend 1 day in the city feeling alright.
But the diet is hard to follow, still experimenting in this area. And, apparently, so far, it needs to be followed on top of Martin Pall treatment.

I've used EFT for a few years now and I find it very good. Physical pain is one of the hardest hurdles with EFT (for me) but for emotional and some other MCS reactions I find it very good. It doesn't always entirely get rid of symptoms but it often tones down the intensity which is more than I can say for most approaches with MCS.

I found it awesome for PTSD and anxiety.

What I like best about it is that it's free - you can learn it for free online and do it on your own!

I am very surprised to be delving so far into an "anti-FDA" diet. I first heard of Hulda Clark about ten years ago, and thought she was a little "science fiction-ie" for me. But I'm finding that many of my physical and mental problems derive from what I've been putting in my body. At this point in my life, I am taking MMS (Miracle Mineral Solution) to kill off the molds, fungi, and viruses that I suspect populate my body, and am dropping sugar, dairy, and foods that can help these little buggers in my body to thrive. Hulda inspired a lot of other researchers, thinkers, and nutritionists to start questioning if our diet benefits US, or agrobusiness more. It is Really Hard to give up lifelong eating habits, but I am committing to it. The way I feel when I eat right is well worth it!

As a long-term sufferer of chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS) and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), amongst other complaints, I have tried many dietary changes in an effort to relieve my symptoms.

I have found that avoiding gluten and casein brings significant benefits. I have been found to have increased intestinal permeability (leaky gut) using lab testing (as have others with these conditions in published studies). According to proponents of the GFCF diet this may increase the chances of opiate-like molecules from partially digested gluten and casein being absorbed from my digestive tract.

My experiences suggest there is substance to this theory as whenever I ingest gluten or casein containing foods I experience symptoms including brain fog, irritability, and restlessness a few hours later. I do not experience the same reaction from any other foods or food groups.

Additionally, I learned early on that removing casein-containing foods from my diet reduced excess mucous in my throat that I suffered badly from.

Surprisngly I can't report improvement in digestive symptoms when on the GFCF diet but it may well be that there are so many other factors causing these symptoms for any improvement to be negligible.

I will not pretend that the GFCF diet is easy, especially at first, but for me it has brought benefits that make it worth the effort. I am now used to a wholefoods diet free from gluten and casein and only run into problems when eating in restaurants. My advice would be to give it a go, you have nothing to lose and potentially much to gain.

I've used epsom salts as part of my treatment regime for a couple of years now and wouldn't be without them. Having suffered from chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS) for going on 18 years now I have been aware of the importance of magnesium and its reported calming qualities for a long time. I had never experienced these however until trying epsom salts. I had had blood tests showing low red cell magnesium levels and tried oral supplements in various forms as well as injections without noticing any improvement. Epsom salts however rapidly produce a very profound calming effect which lasts for much of the day. My anxiety and stress levels decrease, my muscles relax and my mood brightens. I have taken tranquilizer drugs such as diazepam (Valium) on occasion and have to say that the effect I get from the epsom salts is comparable to the drug (while being much safer).

As research shows sulfate is well absorbed through the skin from epsom salts as well as magnesium. It's harder to tell if I have benefitted from this or not however. It is true that my chemical sensitivities have remained minimal during the period I have used epsom salts which could certainly be in part due to the extra sulfate but I have also been using other treatments. Sulfate is very important for the detoxification of chemical pollutants such as vehicle exhaust and petrochemical based products such as perfume.

I use foot baths as I don't have a bath in my flat/apartment. I dissolve around 100g of epsom salts in a plastic bowl that would otherwise be used to wash dishes. This is probably more epsom salts than needed based on Dr. Waring's research mentioned above but it dissolves well and hasn't caused any side-effects. I have read elsewhere that people have had skin irritation when too much has been added to the water but I haven't experienced this. The salts can leave a rim around the bowl/bath though but can be washed off easily enough.

I'm in the UK and have found it quite hard to buy epsom salts in the shops/pharmacies so I now buy online which works out much cheaper anyway. Various websites sell 10kg buckets (which I buy) for around 20 Pounds including delivery. These buckets last me around 5-6 months doing foot baths every other day so are very good value. Oral supplements which I have found ineffective would cost many times more over the same period.

I would recommend epsom salt baths or footbaths to anyone suffering from environmental illnesses, particularly those suffering badly with mood disorders and chemical sensitivities. They are effective, safe and cheap.

I am lucky in that my mum is a reflexologist so I have had easy access to treatment over the years. I have to admit I was initially very sceptical and didn't expect any benefit.

I soon changed my mind however, after only a single hour long treatment. The sense of relaxation I experienced was really profound. As a result of suffering from CFS I have problems with stress, depression and sleep. During reflexology treatment all of these are improved. My body and mind both feel more relaxed and free from stress than they do at any other time. To be honest it is really a struggle to stay awake during a reflexology session! My mum tells me that this is common with all of her clients.

In support of the theory that reflexologists can locate problem areas in the body by feeling tension and sore areas in the feet, I have to say that certain areas of my feet do feel very sore when pressure is applied. I have not injured my feet in these areas and do not notice pain or soreness there at any other time so perhaps there is something in it.

After having a reflexology treatment I find I can sleep more soundly for a few days. Unfortunately I have had no long-term benefits from the treatments. I haven't had any sustained increase in energy or improvement in mood. However, during the treatment and for a few days after the benefits are unmistakable.

I would certainly recommend reflexology to anyone suffering from stress, depression, insomnia, nervous exhaustion etc. If you can afford to visit a reflexologist every week then the benefits may well be maintained. It is worth a trial just to experience the deep level of relaxation that can be achieved.

I first developed chemical sensitivities after being ill with chronic fatigue syndrome for 8 years. It followed the usual pattern of progressing from a few specific things such as perfume and cigarette smoke, to practically every chemical product going. I couldn't use any of the usual household or personal care products and couldn't go outside or be near people without wearing a carbon filter mask.

After strictly avoiding exposure to chemicals for around 2 years I began to find I could once again tolerate certain things that had previously triggered symptoms. My reactions to triggers also became less severe. Almost as rapidly as my sensitivity to chemicals had developed it now disappeared. Although I cannot say 100% that chemical avoidance was the sole reason for this since I was experimenting with various other treatments, I feel that chemical avoidance was by far the largest contributor to my recovery.

I have only given 5/10 for ease of use due to the obvious difficulties that avoiding seemingly omnipresent chemicals presents, at least at first. It can be stressful and put a severe strain on relationships. From my personal experience however I would highly recommend this approach to any MCS sufferer as the effort pays off in the end.
