ESPA Research

ESPA Research is a not-for-profit, wholly owned subsidiary of ESPA (Education and Services for People with Autism) based in Sunderland, UK. We are committed to continuing the research carried out by the Autism Research Unit into autism spectrum and related conditions. Our current portfolio of investigations include: examining the effectiveness of a gluten- and casein-free (GFCF) diet for people with autism and related conditions alongside the discovery of biological entities that may provide insight into any underlying metabolic conditions including potential markers for best- and non-responders to various interventions. The aim of our work is to improve quality of life for people with autism spectrum conditions and increase public recognition of autism to foster a welcoming society.

Various information is shown on our website including: who we are, details of our recent 2-year RCT of a GFCF diet with children with autism (ScanBrit), details of our peer-reviewed publications including free-to-view access to many, details of our recent conference on diet and autism showing PDFs of selected presentations.

Hi and thank you so much for taking the time to post on this site. I have used your urinary opioid peptide analysis myself and the results confirmed my suspicions based on my symptoms regarding dairy foods (casein-derived peptides) as well as pointing to the possible involvement of IAG in my illness.

I look forward to reading future updates on your research into ASDs.
