Well, after the excitement of finding a local raw dairy supplier and enjoying the process of learning and creating ghee, dairy in all forms (from cow’s milk at least) will be put on hold once again.

At the back end of last year I underwent a number of laboratory tests through my environmental medicine doctor. One of these tests, through UK-based laboratory named Acumen, looked for 'DNA adducts' (substances bound to DNA that should not be there) and found bisphenol A (BPA) to be an issue for me. The significance of the DNA adducts testing is that if a toxin such as BPA is present in in large enough quantities in the body to become bound to DNA then its concentrations in the body as a whole are likely to be quite high. Once these toxins become bound to DNA they may also damage it and change the way genes function. Our genes regulate every process in the body so this is not a good thing at all!
The purpose of this blog post however, is not to go into an in-depth discussion of DNA adduct testing, but rather to look at some of the effects BPA has been shown to have on health and the major sources of this ubiquitous manmade chemical.

The following information is for educational purposes only and is not meant to diagnose, treat, or prescribe any kind of disease or illness. It is a good idea to seek the professional advice of a qualified health care practitioner (remember Naturopaths are doctors too) before making any major changes in your self health care.
The National Institutes of Health released funding of $60 million dollars for research last year. Although autism is now considered an epidemic by many, modern medicine claims it lacks hard scientific evidence as to how autism initially onsets. In the 1970’s, autism occurred in 1out of every 10,000 children. Today, that number is 1 in 150 in the United States, even less in the U.K. where Cambridge University just came out with a study where 1 in 60 children were diagnosed with autism.

Man-o-man my days have become about survival at the moment. A quick glance in the mirror in the morning prior to hopping in the shower reveals some nice racoon style dark circles under my eyes.

Greetings to all and a Happy New Year.
ESPA Research has been contacted by a Dietitian based in the UK with an interest in autism and diet. She is looking for parents / primary caregivers of children diagnosed with an autism spectrum condition to take part in an on-line survey looking at various facets of feeding and diet. Children should be aged between 3-16 years and resident in the UK. A link to the survey is provided here hosted by the National Autistic Society (NAS) Research Projects section.
