This is my journal of healing from a lifetime of candida overgrowth and resulting illness, chemical sensitivity. While there is much information about candida overgrowth, the candida diet, related illness and controversy about this insidious and hard to manage condition, I'm digging deeper to find important issues that are not so easily found on an internet search. I am under doctors' supervision and have discussed everything I write about in this blog with them. They are medical doctors, some of them published and all of them knowledgeable about yeast/fungal overgrowth, chemical sensitivity, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, mold illness.

dear all:
I'm still on 4 MU Nystatin (7 months) and 200 mg Diflucan daily. Diflucan treatment will end soon to conclude a one-month long treatment.
I've taken a better look at food as medicine for allergy, candida, inflammation, depression. chemical sensitivity.

Dr. James Brodsky's statement in the preface of The Yeast Connection, 3rd edition calls for doctors to WAKE UP! to yeast related illness. Brodsky says that some patients DEVELOP ALLERGY TO CANDIDA. Dr. Brodsky is currently my doctor. If you are chemically sensitive, ALLERGY to candida might be one of your big problems.
A clear indication of just how allergic I was to candida came while I was on my way out of Dr. Alan Lieberman's South Carolina clinic when, in the last days of a month-long detox, I underwent allergy provocation shots - hours and hours of being injected with substances A-Z, including candida. Every symptom was painstakingly recorded in order to create an effective neutraliztion serum.
Two days before I left the Charleston, SC clinic, I reported to Dr. Lieberman that I was having a delayed reaction to the candida shot - a large, red, itchy welt had grown larger overnight. The serum for neutralization was modified, but, what happened next was very unexpected. The welt continued to grow bigger for a week, on the 15 hour drive home and for days afterwards.
The ALLERGIC reaction I had to candida was FAR GREATER than any of the 200+ substances that I'd been injected with, one at a time. I was allergic to my own body.
Now, I am getting allergy immunotherapy shots for candida from Washington DC allergist immunologist Dr. Talal Nsouli, (also Bill Clinton's allergist). This is the first time he has ever ordered candida allergy shots - he was unwilling at first, but then, agreed. He was able to get the serum extract from his most trusted company. I took the vial to my primary care physician's office where I am on a fast track and getting two shots a week.

Very important to start alkalizing with the first meal, breakfast. Maybe you're not used to a green breakfast, but if you're as sick as I am, it's really time to switch. Add your favorite green Superfood mix as you please - you might want to check to be sure it's gluten Free. ALKALIZE AND HEAL!!!!!
Here are three green smoothies for your blender:
LEMONY MINT GREEN SMOOTHIE
1-2 medium apples depending on desired sweetness ½ - 1 lemon, juiced1 head Romaine hearts 1/2 - 1 medium avocados, depending on thickness and richness desired 1 handful mint leaves 2 -4 cups water (distilled)
APPLE VEGGY SMOOTHIE
1 granny smith apple, washed, cored but with skin
4-5 stalks celery, ends & tips removed, use leaves
2 cups chopped romaine lettuce
½ of a large Haas avocado
½ bunch cilantro or parsley (depending on your preference) stems removed
3-4 cups filtered water
Chop vegetables into 1 inch pieces for easy blending. Fill blender with 3-4 cups filtered water (more or less water depending on how thick you desire your shake). Add all ingredients into blender. Puree till smooth or desired consistency.
* You can also add the juice from one half of a lemon or lime and even ¼ tsp sea salt and/or cayenne pepper.
pH BOOSTING, VEGAN FRIENDLY, PROTEIN SHAKE
Ingredients: 1 avocado, peeled and chunked
1 lime, peeled and halved
1 cucumber (add more or less to change consistency), roughly choped
Tofu 1/2 to 1 cube (silken or soft)
Soy milk - try to find unsweetend (again add to taste/desired consistency)
1-2 big handfuls of fresh raw spinach leaves
Ice to taste (if your blender can handle ice)
Directions:
Peel the avocado and lime and thoroughly wash the cucumber (if it is a thick skinned cucumber, peel some of this away). Then place all of the ingredients into a blender and whizz it all up. If you are particularly keen on lime then you can garnish with some of the zest! Altenatively use lemon, or both! Dependant upon how much tofu and soy milk you use, this can pack a punch of about 20g of protein per drink - which is not far off that of most vegan un-friendly protein shakes and powders.

My dentist, Dr. Eugene Sambataro, heard me out about chronic oral pain, terrible dry mouth, painful teeth and tongue. This pain gets very bad sometimes and contributes/causes such a debilitation and headache that I have named them "neurocrashes." It's been going on for a long time.
Dr. Sam simply tested me with a sublingual pH test strip and found that I was "off the charts" acidic. My body is not absorbing calcium and, to function, my system is leeching it from bones and teeth. It feels like it. Dear all,
Antifungals (azoles) are effective medications for eliminating yeast/fungus/candida in parts of the body that Nystatin cannot reach. Nystatin is great for the gut, but candida can go everywhere through permeated intestinal walls. The candida, once it settles into the mucousal intesinal lining, grows tenacles called RHIZOIDS. These roots weaken the intestinal wall and leaky gut happens, allowing mycotoxins, undigested particles, toxic by-products like aceltaldehyde and yeast to travel into the body. Yeast colonizes and grows in all soft tissue, joints, glands, etc.
You can eradicate the infestation with diet. But, if you are chemically sensitive, you might want to explore antifungal medication with you doctor. If you take azole medication, you must begin with a liver panel before taking any drugs. Stay under doctor supervision.
Recently, my doctor, Dr. James Brodsky, author of the preface to the The Yeast Connection, 3rd edition prescribed Diflucan - fluconazole - at 200 mg per day. I had been on a Nystatin regimine for 5 months and have improved somewhat - I would be better if I were strict with diet. With Diflucan, INSTANTLY, a new die-off started. I'm in the middle of it now. Headache, upset stomach, general aches and a very high level of sensitivity. After three days of terrible die-off, I called Dr. Brodsky to tell him how sick I was. He cut the dosage in half. I was killing off the yeast too fast.
I'm struggling with the diet, but know that without changing my eating habits, I will just be in die-off loop hell forever. It is this blog that's helping me realize that a whole lot of people are helping me now and i must do my part by changing my diet to finally eradicate yeast and get past die-off. I am also learning about what nutritional supplements are necessary - if you're like me, you have a store of supps and just don't know what to take, when.

Dear All,
Frequently I get overwhelmed by the course of recovery. I want to live by the rules that made the first half of my life exciting and meaningful! The rules are different for me now, but many times I am frustrated that there are SO MANY RULES i don't know how to start.
I'm really frustrated this morning. I don't even know what to eat for breakfast, honestly!
