Leading expert joins The Environmental Illness Resource

Dr. Gloria Gilbere will join us as an advisor and contributor from Friday February 9th.

I am happy and excited to announce that Gloria Gilbere will be providing us with her considerable knowledge and experience from this Friday. She will be acting as a medical advisor to the site and will also be writing a weekly column with a new article being published every Monday. She is very enthusiastic about helping us achieve our goal of providing important information about environmental illnesses to all those who need it.

Many of you may recognize Gloria as the author of the best selling books 'I Was Poisoned By My Body' and 'Invisible Illnesses'. She is an internationally respected traditional naturopath, homeopath and doctor of natural health. She is renowned for identifying causes, effects and drug-free solutions for leaky gut syndrome, Multiple Allergic Response Syndromes (MARS™), chemically induced immune system disorders, and her Wholistic Skin & Body Rejuvenation (WSBR™) programs. She is talk-show host of “Your Health Matters” heard weekly on www.healthylife.net and has authored over 400 articles and nine books. She consults with clients worldwide both at her office in northern Idaho in the USA and by telephone.

Dr. Gilbere is a member of numerous respected medical associations including the American Academy of Environmental Medicine, American Naturopathic Medical Association, and American Association of Nutritional Consultants.

What excites us most here at The Environmental Illness Resource is that Gloria has first hand experience of what it is like to suffer from a multitude of unexplained symptoms and conditions.....and she recovered from them through her own efforts. Gloria herself suffered from a host of environmental illnesses including fibromyalgia, leaky gut syndrome, and multiple chemical sensitivity. After finding little help from the medical profession she started researching herself, used innovative testing methods to discover the root causes of her illness, and treated herself with natural drug-free remedies. It is now 10 years since her recovery and a quick glance at her bio above demonstrates how busy she has been since then, which is certainly an indicator that she is now in good health!

Combined with her extensive qualifications, Gloria's personal experiences of the illnesses she is writing about and treating makes her a uniquely authoritative voice on environmental illnesses. We are sure that our visitors will benefit greatly from having the benefit of her vast knowledge and experience.

Dr. Gilbere's column will be called 'First-Hand Solutions to Second-Hand Reactions' and the first article will be published on Monday February 12th. A new article will then appear every Monday. Dr. Gilbere's focus for the column will be upon providing solutions that encompass nutrition, detoxification and environmental measures to reverse environmental illnesses. She will also offer advice on how to be proactive, creating a lifestyle that promotes health rather than leading to illness.

In the future we hope to be able to offer a more interactive experience. One aim is to allow visitors to suggest topics or ask questions for Dr. Gilbere to address. Of course you may do this now by emailing us directly at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

We hope you are as excited as us about the prospect of regular articles from Dr. Gilbere appearing on The Environmental Illness Resource. We're sure they will provide you with the knowledge and solutions you need to improve your health and hope you will become a regular reader.

Would you like mercury with your lunch?

New reports find mercury contaminating the food chain even in areas that most would consider to have a pristine environment.

This week, new reports on the extent to which mercury is contaminating our food supply came out of both the US and Canada.

Mercury is a highly toxic heavy metal that causes neurological damage, especially in the developing brains of children. The metal has been linked with autism over many years now and some studies have found increased levels of both the metal, and antibodies against it, in the blood of autistic children.

Unexplained illnesses affect 5 per cent of Canadians

Statistics Canada reports that over a million suffer from debilitating medical conditions with no officially recognized cause or cure.

The information was gathered by the agency from community health surveys completed by Canadians aged 12 and over during 2002 and 2003. It reveals that around 5%, or 1.2 million, people in Canada suffer from medically unexplained illnesses such as chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), fibromyalgia, and multiple chemical sensitivity, all of which we term 'environmental illnesses' on this website.

The figures indicate that 1.2% of the population are affected by chronic fatigue syndrome. Also known as myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME) and chronic fatigue immune dysfunction syndrome (CFIDS), the illness first attracted widespread attention in the 1980's, when much to the chagrin of sufferers, it was labeled 'yuppie flu' and those afflicted were considered to be whiners and hypochondriacs. Since that time research has discovered many abnormalities in CFS patients, mainly relating to the immune and endocrine (hormonal) systems, and the condition is now officially recognized as a biological medical condition by influential organizations such as the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in the US.
