Sources of microwave radiation such as mobile phone masts and Wi-Fi networks may be to blame for clusters of cancer, depression and other illnesses according to a growing body of evidence.

UK based charity Mast Sanity which campaigns for the safe use of mobile communications networks and radio frequency devices this week issued a press release drawing attention to evidence which links mobile phone and Wi-Fi masts to clusters of ill-health.

In 2000 environmental health scientist Professor Neil Cherry presented evidence to the parliaments of New Zealand, Italy, Austria, Ireland and the EU. Discussing findings from his own research and that of other scientists he warned of significant illnesses and death from these microwave sources.

Now it seems furthr studies and clusters or illness around wireless masts are confirming Professor Cherry's predictions.

In Kingswinford, West Midlands, England, 14 people living within a mile of a mobile phone mast emitting some of the highest levels of radiation in the country have died from cancer in the past 7 years. Four of these deaths have been residents who lived in a cul-de-sac just a stone's throw from the mast. A further 20 local residents have been diagnosed with cancer but have survived. Although the mast has been there since 1995 residents say problems really began when more antennae and dishes were added in 2001.

Experts from the UK's telecommunications watchdog tested the site and said it was emitting the highest levels of radiation of any site tested this year. It was however still within UK safety guidelines. Residents have mounted a campaign to remove the mast, which serves four phone networks.

Mast Sanity says the Kingswinford cancer cluster mirrors findings from a German study published in 2004. Researchers there found that the incidence of cancer among residents of Naila increased threefold among those living within 400 metres of a newly installed mast.

The charity also says that mobile phone masts and town-wide Wi-Fi may be a possible cause for a widely publicised and continuing suicide cluster in Bridgend, Wales. The town has a high density of mobile phone masts and has had Wi-Fi transmitters throughout the town centre since 2006.

There is the possibility that mobile phone companies are aware of the dangers but have kept negative study results quiet. In the US Dr. George Carlo, a leading epidemiologist who formerly headed the $28 million Wireless Technology Research (WTR) program funded by the mobile phone industry, warned about the health dangers in the 1990’s yet his findings were not published. In Europe The ECOLOG Report funded by T-Mobile in Germany and completed in 2000 contained damning evidence of harm from mobile phones was not published at the time, only surfacing quietly several years later.

In light of the potential harm from radiation produced by mobile communications Mast Sanity continues to send delegations to Downing Street to petition the Prime Minister and his Government for large independent investigations of the risks to public health and the environment.

Trustee Yasmin Skelt said, “We are calling on the Health Protection Agency to carry out proper epidemiological studies of suicide and cancer clusters using protocols developed by Dr. Gerd Oberfeld (MD). Researchers need to know where the masts are, how long they have been there and the technical details. The link between electromagnetic fields and depression has been known since the 1930s.”

Further, Mast Sanity state in their recent press release, "Again, Mast Sanity ask the Prime Minister to instruct the Chief Medical Officer and the Health Protection Agency (HPA]) to issue warnings to the British public and ensure that Public exposure limits are greatly reduced immediately. Those responsible in Government, the HPA, ICNIRP as well as the Industry will be held to account for their continuing lack of action on this issue, continuing to fail to protect citizens from the health hazards of Electro-Magnetic Fields (EMFs).

just a short note i have had a mobil phone from its first apperance as soon as was possible started to cary in my trouser pocket as most of us do now .i always keptphone in one pocket keys coins etc in other so save the screen scratces etc as you do 3 to 4 years go by the area on my legg very slowly starts to go num thinking this must be becouse of something else maybe way i sat or a previos bad back did not think any more .as time went by started to here about the phone problems etc and thought will swop over to the other side see what happens ?well within 3months or so the numness started to dissapeer ok so was it back or phone ?? 2t0 3 years later my right legg directly by my phone started to feel slitly num so it was the phone i let this cotinue till i was sure. then swoped pockets again and now have been doing this for over 20 years as my gran always said the proof of the puding is in the eating .i am now in proces of giveing up ny phone im positive its a bid health haserd i hope this is of use to you and others please excuse my spelling mistakes and feel free to contact me any time on my email for any other help or ifo i can give you nigel

i am wifi sensitive since i first start using in 2003. every time i use cellphone it gives me headache. same with bluethooth devices. explain this to my physician and told me it is all in my head. i was furious.
