Panax ginseng is the most potent of the various forms of ginseng used for medicinal purposes. It is also known by various other names including Chinese ginseng, Korean ginseng and Ren shen. Panax ginseng was traditionally used in China and other asian countries as a tonic remedy, giving the patient an energy boost and helping them to recover from illness and resist stress. This is still the primary use of the herb which is now used all over the world. Modern scientific research has confirmed the energy enhancing benefits of Panax ginseng as well as demonstrating many other positive effects on the immune system, blood lipids, and adrenal function to name but a few. It is also known to have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. As with most medicinal herbs it can be used raw to make teas or can be bought from health stores in various forms such as tablets, capsules, and tinctures.
