Guide To Curly Hair: Washing, Brushing And Oilling

Woman with Curly Hair

Many women (and men also!) would do anything to have curls. However, those who have them often struggle to keep them in good shape. Curls happen to be fussy, but if you take care of them well, the wow-effect is guaranteed. Check, how!

Some are wavy, others - coily or kinky. There are various types of curls that can give you a completely different look. However, if you are a happy holder of curls, you probably know how difficult it can be to take care of them well. Unlike straight hair that doesn't require a particular routine, curly hair needs appropriate products and special treatment. What to do and what to use to make them shine and expose the shape of the curl? Here are the rules you definitely should consider following.

#1 Don't Ever Brush Them Dry

We know - brushing is a sore point for any person with curly hair. It can hurt quite a lot and make the brush get stuck in between the tangled strands. The effect is not stunning either - the hair gets fuzzy while the curls lose their shape.

The only way to avoid it is to brush with the conditioner on. Do it in between the first and second round of putting the conditioner (if you decide to follow the routine described below)

#2 Use the Conditioner-Washing-Conditioner Method

This method will make your curls look healthy and glowing. These are its steps:

  • Use a shampoo designated for curly hair;
  • Apply a conditioner all over the strands (it should be the humectant one to hydrate the hair) without washing off the shampoo;
  • Rinse off with warm water;
  • Put an emollient conditioner to close the hair cuticles and rinse off with cold water to enhance the effect.

#3 Remember About Oiling the Hair

As much as straight hair, the curly one can definitely benefit from oiling. However, it should be performed with the oil adjusted to the hair needs - otherwise, it can do more harm than good.

Curly hair (especially coily and kinky) is highly porous. Life with this type of hair is not easy, as it can often get frizzy and tangled. Oiling can reduce these problems almost to zero. There are several oils that fit the highly porous type. Among them, there are:

  • Corn Oil
  • Soy Oil
  • Chia Seeds Oil
  • Linseed Oil
  • Borage Oil
  • Pumpkin Seed Oil
  • Grape Seed Oil
  • Hemp Oil
  • Nigella Seeds Oil

As you can see, there are various types of products that you can choose from. The safest option is to look for them in cosmetics store and pair with the cosmetics that fit for curly hair. This way, you will achieve the best effect. The curls will regain their shape and smoothness, what will make your hair not only look good, but also feel good.
