Ingrown Toenails: Causes And Medical Treatments

An ingrown toenail

Ingrown toenails are caused by a number of different problems that you might have with your toes and fingers.  They turn back when they have not been maintained well, or they will cause you problems when your nails are unnaturally thick. The best thing that you can do is to read this list, work on some home remedies, and go to the doctor when your ingrown toenails are very bad.  You can stop the pain that occurs when you walk, and you can feel better knowing that they will not keep happening.

1. Unkempt Nails

The biggest problem that people run into is unkempt nails. These nails could be pictured in a place like because this gallery explains how a toenail grows wide and long. You will also find that the nails get out of control when they feel they need to expand. If you have never cut your toenails on a regular basis, you need to be sure that you have taken a look at grooming kits that will help you. Keeping your nails trim is a very good start in your effort to eliminate ingrown toenails.

2. Clean Nails

You must do more than cutting your toenails. Your toenails need to be clipped and cleaned on each side so that you do not have anything trapped under the nail. You could easily get an infection when you are not cleaning your nails, and you should be sure that you have used a cuticle cleaner along with a rubber stylus to clean up anything that is stuck alongside your nails.

3. Bad Hosiery, Socks, And Shoes

You could wear hosiery that is very tight, or you might wear socks that cut off circulation to your feet. Your nails could be pushed back on themselves a little bit, and they will start to grow in. This process happens much faster if you have never cleaned your nails. You should use loose hosiery or socks, and you need to be sure that your shoes actually fit. Someone who wears shoes that are too small for their feet will crunch their nails in such a way that they will grow back in.

4. How To Solve This Problem

You need to keep your nails cut, but they should not be cut back too much. Your nails should be groomed by a professional, and they need to be smoothed over so that they are not too wide. This is a very simple thing to handle, but you need to be sure that you have it done often. Do not cut your nails yourself if you feel that you cannot do it correctly. It you get a little uncomfortable because your nails are too short, you have done too much when you were cutting them.

You can solve the problem of ingrown toenails fairly easily, but you need to be sure that you have not cut them too much, groomed your feet, and worn loose hosiery so that you do not push your nails back onto themselves.
