Nursing Home Administrator Salaries Increased in 2017 - Will it Continue for 2018?

For those already in the position as a nursing home administrator, then they are well aware of how good 2017 was. Salaries grew by a healthy 3% during the year, which meant on average nursing home administrators were making $97,401 here in the US, which is up from the 2016 average of $94,584. This of course drew attention not just from those in the field, but also those who were considering entering the workspace.

If you have been considering enrolling in online doctoral nursing programs to eventually work towards becoming a nursing home administrator, the big question is whether or not those healthy salary trends will continue in 2018. To get the answer it’s necessary to dig a little deeper.

2017 Was the Year of Positive Salary Trends

While many jobs seem to be stagnant at the moment in terms of salary, nursing home administrators certainly found the opposite to be true in 2017. A report titled Nursing Home Salary & Benefits Report 2017-2018 took a close and thorough look at the field and the salary trends. Now what makes this 3% increase even more exciting for those in the field is the fact that 2016 also saw an increase of 3.78%. That's almost 7% over a span of two years. This very positive trend is something that caused a fair amount of excitement in the field.

And it wasn’t just nursing home administrators who enjoyed a salary increase in 2017, nursing directors also saw an increase of 2.6%. In 2017, nursing home executive directors had an average salary of $130,389, up from $127,262 in 2016.

These increases alone may be enough to persuade more into enrolling in the doctor of nurse practitioner programs available across the country.

What About Career Opportunities?

So, with salaries on the rise, the next logical question is to ask about career opportunities. It seems as though the good news just keeps rolling in, as experts such as the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) deem that nursing home administrators have excellent opportunities right now. 

The fact of the matter is that the population is aging. As these baby boomers continue to age they will need more and more healthcare and the need for more nursing homes and staff will increase. There are few if any points in history where healthcare will be stretched as much as it will over the next few years.

What Your Role Entails

Unlike a nurse who works hands-on with the patients in the facilities, you'll be working on the administrative side of things. What this means is that you will be responsible for keeping things running smoothly on a day-to-day basis and long-term. This position carries a lot of weight and respect with it, and requires very highly trained professionals.
