What Scientific Research Has To Say About Weight Loss Supplements

Scientific microscope

Many people around the world are looking to weight loss supplements to help them achieve their weight loss and fitness goals quickly and easily. Although, that quest is usually short-lived when people realize that this magic pill that sheds pounds does not exist and a lot more effort goes into losing weight than initially thought.

It has been proven through scientific research that calorie restriction and a healthy diet combined with a consistent exercise routine effectively helps you lose weight. Many weight loss supplements claim to show results similar to the way calorie restriction works, but we are not talking about those today. A supplement or supplement stack for weight loss cannot do all the work for you, but they can enhance your weight loss journey and provide benefits that work.

Here is what scientific research has to say about weight loss supplements and whether the claims are valid:

How Weight Loss Supplements Work

Weight loss supplements come in a couple of different forms, but the most common versions are capsules, tablets, and liquids. The manufacturers of these supplements usually make bold claims of being able to promise fast weight loss, appetite suppression, and boosts in metabolism. These supplements can contain multiple different ingredients that work or may have no effect, such as herbs, dietary fiber, minerals, and caffeine.

Each weight loss supplement can provide a different benefit in which you use them according to your lifestyle or end goal. Weight loss supplements have been shown to provide substantial benefits such as appetite suppression, energy production, decrease in bloating and water retention, and using fat stores as energy.

Weight loss supplements can play a huge role in promoting healthy lifestyles and the prevention of certain diseases, although the safety and accuracy of the supplements are questioned continuously.

Which Weight Loss Supplements are Backed By Research?

Weight loss supplements have gotten a bad representation because of the very reason that the FDA does not regulate them. This means that there is no actual proof that they do what they claim unless the manufacturers pay for scientific research studies independently. The number of good, beneficial studies done on weight loss supplements are very limited, but they show significant results and are trustworthy as a result.

Green Coffee Beans

Green coffee beans used in supplements have been shown to help participants lose weight by the naturally occurring caffeine and chlorogenic acid increasing fat burning. A review of three different studies found that the supplement made people lose 5.4 more pounds then a placebo group.

Magnesium Citrate

Magnesium citrate has been shown from numerous studies to reduce insulin resistance. Insulin resistance makes it difficult for people to lose weight and fight fatigue, so when taking magnesium citrate while suffering from this can make a huge difference.

Magnesium citrate has also been proven to increase energy production in our body, which directly affects our metabolism. When we have low energy production, it results in a slow metabolism, which leads to easier weight gain.

Glucomannan is a fiber discovered in the roots of the elephant yam, and it works to sit in your gut and absorb water so you can feel fuller naturally for longer.

Three different studies done on humans have shown that combined with a healthy diet, glucomannan can help you obese people lose 8-10 pounds over a 5 week period. Keep in mind, for people who are already somewhat fit, the results will be less significant.
