How to Keep Your Body and Mind Active

Book simply titled 'Happy'

Keeping your body and mind active isn’t just about your overall health, it’s also about helping to keep yourself motivated and preventing problems such as depression and anxiety. It has long been known that being active helps to minimize these issues, but it doesn’t mean that you have to start doing ten-mile jogs or lifting weights, you can still be active and keep your mind healthy. Here are some of the ways you can be active in body and mind.

Think Positively

It can be one of the most difficult things to do, but studies have shown that people who think positively are more likely to overcome problems and prevent mental health issues. To try and get yourself in the correct frame of mind, you should try to turn any negative thoughts around into something positive. For example, if the weather is bad and you can’t go outside, think about all those things you can do inside instead. Perhaps you can do that blog you have meant to write for ages, or maybe it gives you the chance to paint your bedroom?

Remove Negativity from Your Life

For some people, this can be a difficult thing to do - not because they don’t want to get rid of negativity, but because it’s usually those you think of as friends who are having this effect on you. Having someone who is always negative can be bad for you. You might think that by trying to help them, you can turn that negative outlook around. However, there are often people who you cannot motivate in this way, and all that happens is that the negative vibes start to affect you. It can be particularly difficult if you are struggling to stay positive yourself. As difficult as it may be, you need to make the conscious effort to remove these people from your life, or you won’t be able to help yourself.

Finding Your Motivation

To be happier, and to start enjoying life, you need to have some motivation. It will give you the impetus to move forward and reach your goals. It doesn’t matter what your motivation is, just as long as it is something that you can draw on when things are getting tough. For example, if you are looking to be more active, then it will work better if you have something active to work toward. Perhaps you want to do a sponsored event, and you would like to make it easier for yourself. Once you have found the motivation, you need, the rest will be a lot easier.

Learn to Love Yourself

There are so many magazines and articles online that are telling people how they must look, that it can be hard to learn to love yourself just as you are. The idea of the perfect body or the perfect diet is something that can cause more harm than good to many people. Thankfully, there is more websites and fashion lines that are starting to fight against the body shaming and the perfect image. Loving yourself makes decisions much easier, especially about becoming more active. If you are doing it because other people are telling you, then this can be counterproductive. You should make these decisions because you want to do it, and you want to feel the benefits.

Stay Sociable

Many studies have shown that those who are active socially are a lot less likely to become depressed or anxious than those that aren’t. There is no doubt that having a group of friends to go out with can be a big boost to your morale and your self-esteem, so you need to keep yourself sociable, even when you don’t feel like it. Doing things together as a group can also help to bring you out of a low mood, especially if you are doing something exciting that also stimulates your mind. Encourage you and a group of friends to do something exciting such as visiting the Boston Escape Room to do some puzzle solving or going shopping. Both of these will be great for stimulating your mind and having some fun.

Learn to Take Time Out

If you have a busy schedule, it can be difficult to find any time to yourself. However, you cannot underestimate how important taking some time out can be, especially if you have family at home. Spending time with your family can help to relax you and put you in a happier frame of mind, but it is still important to take some time just for you, perhaps once a week or so. Start by making sure you have the house to yourself and then tell everyone that your cell phone is being switched off and that you are not answering the phone for at least two hours. You can then relax in the best way for you; it could be watching your favorite television show, or having a soak in the bath with the radio on. If you make it a routine, you will quickly start to see the difference in your physical and mental health.

Do Simple Activities

Staying active doesn’t take hours in the gym or doing two hours of cardio in your house, all it takes is to do a few things that get you up and moving. It could be taking a nice afternoon walk in the sun or going for a swim. You can even get a dog as a companion and someone to walk with every day. Having a pet like this will also give you the motivation you need to go out even when you aren’t feeling up to it. You will quickly see that just this small amount of activity can boost your emotional and physical self.

Looking after your body and mind is vital to keeping yourself healthy, you need to have confidence and self-belief and be happy with your own body. If you can do this and keep yourself active, there is no reason why you cannot achieve anything you want in life.
