Today I feel wonderful!

Long time no input, but things are going great! I have recently (in the last three months) made a fantastic discovery and I feel wonderful! In my opinion diet is one of the answers to our modern day illnesses. I discovered that people with Hypothyroid can also have gluten or lactose intolerance. I have been following the Paleo(caveman) diet, the weight as just fallen off!  I also have a lot more energy and I am back into my pre illness clothes. It makes so much sense. The Paleo diet consists of eating meat, fish, vegetables, fruits, plants, nuts and seeds, but nothing that is processed, foods without modern food techniques, chemicals and preservatives. 'Simples!' It is based on the foods available to our hunter gatherer ancestors, foods found in nature.   It really does work and it's so easy to follow, you have nothing to loose, but the weight in pounds and...

The Loneliness of the long distance Hypothyroid Butterfly

Well it all began, what seems like an eternity ago, we had just come back from the most wonderful holiday, I was oh so much in love. I had to pinch myself I was so happy! He loves running so I thought I'd join him, but I couldn't keep up, it was like my fuel tank was empty, I knew something was wrong! All my life I've been what can only be described as hyper, I never could sit down, was forever hungry and never put on an ounce. It hit me like a ton of bricks, if I'd been a horse they would have shot me, put me out of my misery! Can you imagine the worst flu you have ever had, well times this by two and you might still not feel as bad as I was feeling! I put on three stone and I was starving myself,...

My mind at rest and you don't need a prescription!

Dear Denise, Thank you for your email. Both Dr. Lowe and I appreciate your concern for the protection of desiccated thyroid. Dr. Lowe has been in touch with RLC Labs to discuss this and as of yet, RLC has not received any notice that they will be required to fill out a new application. The reason for their particular unavailable product is that the raw material is on back-order not because of the FDA. The back up product that might help you if you run out of your thyroid hormone would be to consider the HYPO SUPPORT FORMULA. Dr. Lowe was asked by RLC to research it and he conducted clinical trials to determine that it is effective in relieving hypo symptoms. The HSF does not require a prescription as it is considered a "dietary" desiccated thyroid product and protected by the 1994 dietary supplement act. You can read about...

Where is the light?

It's raining heavy out side, but what is much worse at this moment in time is the feeling of doom and gloom in my heart. The word is that the FDA is telling people who have called their consumer hotline that they will be requiring natural thyroid drugs to go through the New Drug Application process. The question now is, when? And will they pull these drugs off the market for the several years this process can take? It's really appalling. The FDA -- which rushes to approve all sorts of dangerous and overpriced drugs -- is poised to remove from the market a drug that has been safely used for more than 100 years. And we all know what it's about. It's not about safety. It's all about market share for a certain levothyroxine manufacturer, and their ability to influence decisions at the FDA.! There are no words to...

Nature-throid does it work? Let us know your experiences.

Well I've been taking the Nature-throid for 1 week now! I do seem a little bit more tired than when I was on Armour otherwise no side effects, I have 140 of the Armour tabs left so I am going to go back to taking them as from tomorrow, as they have a much earlier use by date! That should take me to beginning of Jan 2010, when I will review the Nature-throid situation.  If you have tried or you are going to try Nature-throid I would love to hear how you get on with them, don't make my mistake and take too much. If you know of any other helpful treatments please let me know. Any advise would be welcome and I would love to hear of your experiences. Take care Denise

Light at the end of the tunnel. I hope so!

I am still waiting for my Nature-throid to arrive but just to let you know of the information I have found at:  http://rlclabs.com/aboutUs.asp RLC Labs, Inc supply Nature-ThroidTM, and claim that they provide the only hypoallergenic medication with a history of safety, efficacy, and consistent T3 and T4 content unmatched by anyone in the industry.  I can not wait to try it, if it works as good as the old Armour did I'll be happy but I have a feeling it may be better as RLC concentrate of providing thyroid care! Check out their web site for yourself.  If any one has tried it I would love to hear your views.  Denise

Red Alert! Bad, bad news Guys I am so disappointed Armour formulation has changed!!!

I can't believe it just as I am feeling great I get this awful, totally devastating E-mail bulleting from Mary Check this out  Mary Shomon -  About.com - Thyroid disease guide. They have changed the formula of Armour and it's making people ill, not working as good, apparently the new tablets are crumbly so when I get home from work to day I am going to see which they have sent me. God this stinks! I will now have to look for an alternative, I could cry I feel so well and they are taking my health away from me God dam Forrest Laboratories!

I feel fantastic but don't just take my word for it!

That being wrongly diagnosed is rampant due to the very 'validated' TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone) lab test result they support, i.e. a pituitary hormone, which can be "normal" for years before it rises high enough to reveal one's cellular hypothyroid state; That thryoxine is the medication wrongly treating thyroid patients, since it leaves most all patients with lingering hypothyroid symptoms which doctors dismiss as belonging to something else; That those natural treatments, such as desiccated thyroid like Armour made by Forest Labs of the US, are changing lives and removing those lingering hypothyroid symptoms because of the presence of direct T3; That side effects from the use of natural desiccated thyroid are due to undiagnosed adrenal fatigue and low cortisol which needs treatment, not the desiccated thyroid itself; and That the adrenal fatigue so many thyroid patients find themselves with is, in fact and ironically, due to the inadequacy of...

Don't ever give up hope!

I have shed a stone now since being on Armour thyroid, I started taking it on the 21st of March 2009 so just over a pound per week, I have done nothing other change from Levothyroxine, and if anything I am eating more! To you Doctors out there who promote Levothyroxine and other synthetic options only, I would ask you to please consider that some people can be violently intolerant of it, as I was! To my fellow thyroid suffers I would say don't ever give up hope, your salvation may be just a little tablet away, I had over two years of Hell, living in a dark place with me hiding inside. I can see the blue skies now, the difficult times have helped me to understand better than before how rich and beautiful life is, and that so many things that one goes worrying about are of no...

Letter to the Ombudsman - had reply he is looking in to it........

Dear Ombudsman, I am writing to you because I don't have the internet at home and don't have much time at work! I have tried PALS and written to my ex doctors directly, I want something done about this injustice! I have so many questions. I am truly mystified at why Doctors seem to delight in kicking patients while they're down! I have been fighting my right to health for over two years now! Although I had almost every single symptom and a family history of hypothyroidism my doctors wouldn't treat me until I reached '10' [for TSH] on their stupid scale. I put on 3 stone, had symptoms too numerous to mention and thought I was going crazy! On the 2nd September 2008, I final reached this goal, then and only then did they say "You will be glad to know we can treat you now." I was angry,...

Letter to the Endocrinologist

Dr Doctor Hosker If there was any way I could prevent another person from going through what I did, I would do everything in my power to stop it! Potentially thousands of people are walking around feeling miserable when I know you can feel so much better. I am not going to get into all the details because I am sure you will do the due diligence should this topic interest you. I know you address a lot of issues that affect women specifically. Exploring thyroid disease should be at the top of your list. It is the reason that many women are overweight and depressed or having trouble conceiving. It is the reason why many women who are diagnosed with menopausal symptoms do not respond to hormone or other treatments. Menopause is not their only problem. I feel that if I had not taken the time, or had the...

The NHS are Killing us!

The NHS are Killing us!   Patients are been ignored, denigrated, overlooked, and under-treated and doctors who prescribed natural thyroid drugs like Armour are been written off as quacks, or irresponsible, or in some cases, even brought up on charges by the levothyroxine-only zealots on medical boards.   It's all one gigantic smelly mess and ARMOUR REALLY WORKS I am living proof! If I hadn't discovered it I'd be bed ridden now, instead of full of life!   Will somebody out their please tell me what to do to make people aware about all the doctors out there that are evil, cheating, money grabbing, selfish creatures. I say creature because they can not be human if they are letting their fellow human beings suffer so needlessly.   They are literally killing us! Denise

Lets make a difference!

Dear all, I am trying to answer your questions, but for some reason can not get on to the blog? What I would say to you all out there struggling is that in trying to think about how we can make a big difference please do not  ignore the small daily differences we can make which add up to big differences over time. I always wondered why somebody doesn't do something about that. Then I realized I was somebody! What I need now is to find out my next step to take, I have the energy now do something, any ideas?

Letter to my Doctors in response to refusal to prescribe Armour

Dear Doctors Exactly the response I expected thanks for nothing! I am amazed at how much better I feel. I have more energy and I am even starting to slowly lose a few pounds. But I am still worried about all the people out there that still think they are just doomed. I have so many questions. I am truly mystified at why Doctors seem to delight in kicking patients while they're down! What is the motivation of doctors who apparently don't want you to get properly diagnosed or live and feel well? Do they have some sort of vested interest in ensuring higher rates of infertility, recurrent miscarriage, obesity, high cholesterol and heart disease etc, etc, by denying thyroid patients proper thyroid diagnosis and treatment? I am not saying all doctors are in on it. I know you are all just doing what you are told by the senior...

Successful Hypothyroidism Treatment with Armour Thyroid

A friend of mine forwarded me this site as I don't have the internet at home and don't have much time to explore at work, I have been fighting my right to health for over two years! Although I had almost every single symptom and a family history of hypothyroidism my doctors wouldn't treat me until I reached '10' [for TSH] on their stupid scale. I put on 3 stone, had symptoms too numerous to mention and thought I was going crazy! On the 2nd September 2008, I final reached this goal, then and only then did she Say "You will be glad to know we can treat you now." I was angry, disgusted and seething but took my T4 gladly at first, they made me very ill while I took them for seven months, until I'd really had enough of all the debilitating symptoms. Still gaining weight and very few if any...
