The newsletters are packed full of features including in depth articles, research briefs, and question and answer sessions with readers. Subjects that Dr. Teitelbaum's articles have addressed so far include adrenal problems, the top 10 natural and prescription supplements/medications for CFS/FMS, and the treatment of infections without resorting to antibiotic drugs.
For those who are unfamiliar with Dr. Teitelbaum, here is a short bio provided by the man himself:
Jacob Teitelbaum MD is Medical Director of the Fibromyalgia and Fatigue Centers ( http://www.fibroandfatigue.com/ ). Senior author of the landmark studies "Effective Treatment of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia -- a Placebo-controlled Study" & "Effective Treatment of CFS & Fibromyalgia with D-Ribose". Author of the best-selling book" From Fatigued to Fantastic!"(3rd ed-Penguin/Avery Oct 4, 2007) , " Three Steps to Happiness! Healing through Joy", and "Pain Free 1-2-3- A Proven Program to Get YOU Pain Free! "(McGraw Hill, 2006). He does numerous media appearances, including CNN and FOX National News and is a frequent guest on Oprah and Friends with Dr. Oz. He lives in Kona, Hawaii. Web site: http://www.vitality101.com/
Dr. Teitelbaum himself suffered from CFS/FMS while he was at medical school in the 1970s. He was able to use his medical knowledge and personal experience of the illnesses to regain his health and has spent 30 years helping other patients recover, through his own medical practice, by authoring books and making media appearances, conducting medical research, and more recently as medical director of Fibromyalgia and Fatigue Centers.
The are 12 Fibromyalgia and Fatigue Centers spread throughout the US, from Philidelphia, PA in the east to Portland, OR in the west. The centers have already effectively treated over 5000 CFS/FMS patients.
Dr. Teitelbaum's book 'From Fatigued to Fantastic!' has been a huge seller and for good reason. Now in its 3rd edition, I have owned an earlier edition for a number of years and it was the first book I'd read that really put all the pieces of the chronic fatigue symdrome puzzle together for me. Dr. Teitelbaum approaches CFS and fibromyalgia by looking at all the things that can go wrong with the body in these conditions and then using all available tools, be they traditional medications or natural supplements, to restore the patients physiology to normal with corresponding improvements in symptoms and functioning capcity. He has demonstrated the effectiveness of his approach both through individual patients he has successfully treated and through carrying out controlled trials of his treatment protocols which have been published in the medical literature. You can read reviews of From Fatigued to Fantastic! here.
Beyond all his CFS/FMS expertise, Dr. Teitelbaum is a really nice person. On the few occassions I have asked him to contribute articles or comments for this site he has always responded very quickly and been happy to do all he can to help. I know he has also done the same for other sites and has often contributed his knowledge on the effectiveness of different treatments on the RemedyFind website (now Revolution Health), which I'm sure many of you have visited at some point. It is refreshing to find a doctor who always has time for patients and other interested parties.
The first newsletter from Dr. Teitelbaum will be added on Monday and I will do my best to add previous newsletters that he has published so far on his own site. You will be able to find the newsletters under the 'Expert Advice' menu in the left column of the site.
I hope you will come back every week to enjoy the benefit of Dr. Teitelbaum's CFS/FMS knowledge and advice.
I wish you all a happy and healthy weekend!
