Blood is an important life-maintaining fluid and blood circulation takes place through your arteries, veins, heart and capillaries. As the blood performs several complex functions in your body, there are several disorders that are related to blood which require clinical care by certified healthcare professional or physician.
It is very important to undergo same day blood tests at regular intervals of time as ignoring it may simply lead to health risks, which you might be unaware of. Some of the common blood disorders include sepsis, iron deficiency anaemia, leukaemia, etc. Such tests are carried out on blood sample taken out from a vein in the arm with a fingerprick/needle.
Let us refer to some of the examples of blood tests used to diagnose cancer that includes:
1.CBC (Complete blood count) – It is common test which is carried out to measure the amount of various types of blood cells in the blood sample. The abnormality lies in terms of too few or many cells of particular type of abnormal cells. This test basically counts red and white blood platelets, corpuscular volume and haemoglobin.
2.Tumour market tests – Tumour markers are basically chemicals made by tumour cells which if present in the blood can be detected easily. Tumour markers get produced by some normal cells in your body and its levels could be elevated in noncancerous conditions. It further limits the potential for such type of tests which proves helpful in diagnosing cancer.
3.Blood protein testing – This type of test examines various proteins present in blood and further aids in detection of certain abnormal immune system proteins often known as immunoglobulin which are sometimes elevated in people suffering from multiple myeloma. Other types of blood tests like bone marrow biopsy prove useful to confirm a suspected diagnosis.
Blood Test Results
Blood test results are very carefully interpreted as number of factors can impact test outcomes like variations in diet/body. Noncancerous conditions can at times cause abnormal test results. In some other cases, cancer may be present even though blood test results don’t show the same. These test results are used by doctors in determining whether your levels fall within a normal range or they might compare your results with those from past tests.
Important reasons to take blood test
There are several reasons that describe the need to take blood test:
- Helps in diagnosing certain conditions which rule these conditions out if in case symptoms suggest possible health conditions.
- Helps in monitoring the activity and severity of health conditions. For instance, a blood test may prove helpful to see if a blood disorder is responding to treatment or not.
- It is advisable to check body’s functions like kidney and liver function, when you are on medication that may have side-effects.
Some factors may cause blood disorders which affect cells in the blood or proteins in the blood clotting or immune systems. Laboratory tests of blood samples are usually recommended to monitor and diagnose blood diseases. As liquid portion of the blood i.e. plasma carries so many useful substances essential to functioning of your body, blood tests are carried out to find out the condition of different parts of the body.
Different types of blood disorders show different symptoms. These symptoms are often non specific and vague which means that they indicate a disorder of any part of your body. Thus, it is very important to consider blood test to ensure that you don’t suffer from any blood disorder or any other health problem.
