Some of these Superfoods, including a number of so called Superfruits, are bursting with antioxidants, fiber, vitamins and minerals. And what do these do that make them so super? Nutritionists believe that these could be the keys to helping you live longer, look younger and avoid diseases.
Antioxidants
Antioxidants, for all the hype, few people may actually know what they do. Antioxidants are molecules that stop the transfer of electrons or hydrogen. This helps to inhibit free radicals which are often to blame for chain reactions in cells that can cause damage or death to the cell, i.e. cancer.
Fruits can be a terrific source of antioxidants to help protect the health of your cells. The rare Brazilian wonder called Acai berries carry the most clout as far as antioxidants go. But many other fruits like strawberries, blueberries and pomegranates also boast a wealth of antioxidants.
Fruits That Lower Cholesterol
Cherries, grapefruit, dragon fruit and avocados provide the body with healthy unsaturated fats. They accomplish this by providing HDL (the good cholesterol) instead of LDL (the bad kind. Avocados supply monosaturated fats as well as fatty acids to even help break down LDL cholesterol.
Heart Soldiers
A number of enlisted fruits help to protect the heart. Papaya aids a healthy heart as well as apples which provide antihistamine and anti-inflammatory power. The potassium in bananas will lower your blood pressure. And blackberries produce antioxidants calleld polyphenols, also found in green tea, that help to prevent cardiovascular disease as well as cancers and osteoporosis.
The Miracle of Manganese
Manganese is important for the maintenance of strong bones, the synthesis of fatty acids and cholesterol, the normality of blood sugar, nerve health, the functioning of the thyroid gland and other positive roles in the body. Blueberries and raspberries provide this which can also speed up your metabolism to provide energy and a healthier weight.
Random but Awesome
Many fruits are surprising little foods. This includes cantaloupe which can help develop smoother, younger looking skin by exfoliating with increased cell reproduction. Strawberries, when ground into a past and mixed with baking soda, may whiten your teeth. Cherries can prevent age spots. Cranberries fight ovarian cancer in women and grapes may even slow down Alzheimer’s disease while tackling head and neck cancers. Plums may even reduce anxiety. Pumpkins can lower blood pressure. And Pineapple can reduce bloating with bromelin.
There are so many fruits which do deserve the title of Superfruit that tomatoes, kiwis, watermelon and oranges have not even been mentioned yet. On top of these amazing properties, most Superfruits contain the vital fiber and Vitamins C, A, E and B that your body can use to remain healthy and thriving.
