Use Of Technology And The Future Of Healthcare Industry

The use of technology is everywhere and across all industries, whether it is an automobile or healthcare industry. You will see different types of machines, computers and advanced tools being used in different industries. The most significant reasons to use technology are:

  • To expedite the process of production and delivery of service
  • To improve the process itself and
  • To increase the production or services to generate more revenue.

In the healthcare industry, the use of Maglev technology is seen nowadays increasingly so much so that the experts think it will shape the future of the industry on the whole.

Maglev is actually the short form of Magnetic Levitation. This may sound like the name of any science fiction movie but it is used in reality. You may have noticed the use of this technology in trains and other modes of transportation which makes sure that the trains run on time.

However, magnetic levitation can do much more than that and in reality, it has already changed and saved some lives with its immense possibilities when used in the field of healthcare.

In order to understand maglev technology, you will need to know the basics of the magnetic theory which says "opposite poles attract each other." This means that the North Pole of a magnet will attract and stick together coming in contact of the South Pole and vice versa.

However, in maglev technology, it is the inverse that provides it with the power to perform. Poles of the same type are placed near each other and the electromagnetic forces of the two repel them and therefore levitate above the surface.

The diverse application in healthcare

Ideally, maglev technology has diverse applications and is highly advanced.

Since the moving objects do not touch each other the chances of any wear and tear due to friction between the two surfaces is significantly reduced.

  • It is due to the less or no friction that makes systems with maglev technology much more efficient.
  • It also reduces the cost of maintenance of the systems as well as prolongs the lifespan of a machine or a system.

The maglev system has brought the future to healthcare and itself has become the future of this industry as well. This is because the potential of maglev technology in the healthcare industry is immense which is why it is used so extensively.

Medical researchers of the University of Texas and Rice University teamed up in 2010 and used magnetic levitation technology to create a 3D tumor model. The process they followed included:

  • Injecting gold nanoparticles and magnetic iron oxide to the cancer cells
  • Adding the cells to a Petri dish and
  • Installing a coin-sized magnet on top of it.

The EMF or the electromagnetic force lifted the cells. When it grew it remained suspended in the liquid resembling the actual tumor cells. This could lead to better cancer treatments, researchers believed. It did.

In another application of the maglev technology, the LVAD or Left Ventricular Assist Device was developed to be used in the heart failure patients who needed hemodynamic support. The maglev flow technology ensures improvement in the blood flow. This is done with the help of a pump that uses full magnetic levitation.

  • This actually reduces the disturbance in the blood passing through this LVAD system.
  • As a result, heart complications are reduced significantly thereby improving the quality of life of the patient.

These applications and more show that the maglev technology without any doubt has a bright future and a tremendous usage potential in the healthcare industry as well as the society at large, securing the future health of the people.

Virtual reality and heart treatment

Just like maglev technology, virtual reality is another specific technology that is used in healthcare that has a strong potential to improve treatments and secure the future of healthcare.

Virtual reality enables the doctor to stan inside a human heart! Crazy and insane as it may sound to you, this is actually a reality now, thanks to the advanced technology. All that is required is a headset which when put over the eyes enables the doctor to be in and see the human heart to find the specific issue in it.

Even you will be able to walk through and see how and why they will fix the issue. You will be able to know first hand what is the issue and what will happen to you after the operation.

The heart is not only one of the most vital organs to a human being but is also the most complicated of all organs. This is because:

  • It has to keep beating at the same pace for years and
  • The process that it goes through in the utero bring in a lot of risks and chances for abnormality.

This type of defect happens too often. According to a recent report, in the US alone there are about 40,000 births with CHD or congenital heart defects every year.

Another good thing about virtual reality is that it helps the students to learn a lot about this complex organ which is pretty difficult to study practically in action. This will need a large number of people on the table with their chest split, alive! This impossible can now be made possible with the help of virtual reality technology and the interactive visual.

The final thought

The use of virtual reality and maglev technology in healthcare has helped the pediatric cardiologists as well as several other surgeons for the adults as well. these technologies have not only facilitated the treatment process but have also made it easier for the doctors to communicate with their patients and keep them well informed to get their consent.

Therefore, if applied properly technology can bring true benefits into healthcare just as using technology in social media marketing, for example, that used to buy automatic Instagram likeswill bring marketing benefits. However, VR and maglev are not the only ones that will change the healthcare industry. There are more to come and used in the near future.
