We've all heard the saying "your health is your wealth".
What does that really mean? Perhaps if I get healthy I will get wealthy?
Maybe when I'm in great health that's all I will need in this world. Both statements are true. Your Health is your wealth. Let's dive in shall we.
I was 24 years young, drinking monsters to stay up while working the graveyard shift at a local grocery store in El Paso, Texas. During the day I ate at my job, Whataburger.
Between all the fast food and energy drinks I was feeling like CRAP, at the age of 24! I was tired, very tired, always tired, until one day I got tired of being tired. Sick and tired of being sick and tired. Well, believe it or not I wasn't always sick but you get the gist. I was always tired, not only from working back to back but from what I was feeding my body. My car was always broke.
I'd go to the gym with my buddy Devin." We grew up together but as we got older we started doing our own thing. One day he told me "Jo, Why do I always have to convince you to go to the gym?" I said "bro, i'm always drained." This is where my life got a little
crazy. He bet me $500 bucks I couldn't water for 5 days. $500 bucks!!!!! My pay checks combined aren't even that much! "Fine, I'll take that bet!"
Not only did I eat and drink poorly, but I also smoked cigarettes. Yes I know, EEWWWW. Let me tell you, that first day kicked my butt. If your a smoker, maybe you can get through the day without a smoke if you're really busy, but at the end of the day, you needa smoke!
Devin said make sure I have a set schedule to go to sleep, and to really think about what I will do with this money should I win.
I'm laying in bed, past my bedtime, hungry, thinking about a new port, and maybe he can keep that $500 bucks. Finally after filling like death, Devin walks into my Burger Job. Asks one of my co-workers if they saw me eating, or smoking. Of course they said no, even the ones I used to hang with on smoke breaks, they said they were really concerned about me due to my change.
I met him at the counter, he threw $500 in twenty dollar bills on the counter. He says "you're coming with me!" So, I take off my robe, tossed it to my manager, grabbed the money and went with him.
"Can I eat now? Let's go to Taco bell." "NO man, you don't get it, I made you fast so you can get all those toxins out of you body, you now have a clean slate if you can kick the bad eating habits and smoking." Then he explained what I should be eating, how to juice etc and how his dad owns a small company building custom decks, foundation repair, water proofing etc.
He plans on growing his business and asked Devin if he knew any trust worth hard working guys. That's where I came in, I started as a laborer making a little more than what I used to make. A year later after knowing the process I became a formen like Devin and was given my truck and Crew.
Some readers may think, I just got a hand out. But had I not took that bet and fasted, would Devin even brought me into the company?
Maybe, I never Asked.
Anyways by this time I'm feeling great. I have more energy, I can think clearer. I even learned SEO. Initially it was to generate more traffic and customers for my current boss, but eventually I started my own business doing SEO and lead generation for other businesses.
Today, I'm 28 years old. Devins dad has been my client for the last 3 years, paying me $2500 a month to generate clients for him, and so are many other businesses. I have a beautiful wife and daughter, big home with a badass back porch I learned how to build years ago.
Honestly I can testify that your health is your wealth. You have to invest in yourself in order to grow. I had been smoking from ages 9 to 24, that's a long darn time.
As I got healthier I obtained more energy, more ideas, I didn't have that nasty cigarette smell in my nose, mouth, car, clothes and house. My hands don't shake any more, which was caused by the monster drinks. Overall I feel really great, Work out all the time, Juice and now I fast during Ramadan. I don't eat meat like I used to. Had I started these habits earlier in my life.
I feel like I could be so much more ahead. But I did, and now I have to make up for lost time.
