Be Your Best You! Cleansing With the Seasons!
As the winter season approaches, many of us are given once last chance to cleanse before we begin consuming winter foods that are typically higher in proteins, fats and mineral-rich salts.
This cleansing opportunity can mean a runny nose, a fever or a chest cold. Rather than push symptoms down with an over-the-counter medication or antibiotics, you can take full advantage of this year’s fall season by encouraging your body to gently detoxify.
While the body is capable of pushing out toxins any time, winter is not an ideal time to cleanse. Instead, winter is a time to slow down and move inward.
During winter season, our days are shorter and our nights are longer. One secret to living a long and happy life is to keep our hormones in balance by moving with the seasons. Our bodies are wired to work in rhythm with nature. During the winter months, the body is best served with stillness and rest.
Winter is a time when we accumulate energy and conserve resources.
Before the holiday season is in full swing, you can assist the body in releasing any chemical or emotional debris that has built up within the system.
When we talk about cleansing, we are not talking about aggressive herbal supplements and harsh laxatives. This way of emptying the bowels can drain the body of its precious reserves and - worse - become habit-forming.
The best way to cleanse before the holidays is to make a few key adjustments in diet and lifestyle. Leave the rest of the work to your body and trust!
- Encourage Flow. Your colon is one major exit for much of the body’s waste. For any cleanse to be successful, you must make sure that you are moving your bowel at least once a day. If you suffer from constipation, try gently massaging the area around the belly button. Be sure and follow the direction of colon by moving up your right side, across, and down your left.
- Support The Liver. Your liver processes many toxins and excess that the body must deal with on a daily basis. Give your liver some love by simply cooking with turmeric regularly! You can also boost antioxidants in liver tissue and support bile flow with herbs like milk thistle, artichoke, wasabi, and sarsaparilla.
- Make Detoxification Effortless. One of the easiest ways to cleanse the body is to eat fermented foods every day and with every meal. Fermented foods are full of beneficial bacteria that help to heal the body while metabolizing toxins like heavy metals.
- Let Go. I am sure that I am not the only one who finds delight and joy in the holiday season. Gratitude is expressed through the giving and receiving that the holiday season brings.
