Fibromyalgia and CFS Update, Sleep Relief

by Jacob Teitelbaum MD

Dear Readers,

Because of the importance of getting a good nights' sleep, this newsletter will continue last issue's discussion on sleep. Whether you have CFS or fibromyalgia, or are simply looking to get some much needed sleep, natural relief is on the way — for both you and your children.

Some of you have asked about the cause of insomnia in your preteen children. This is fairly common, and understanding what is happening is critical to solving the problem. For more information on this, see Insomnia in Children Ages 5-12.

For adults with insomnia, including those with CFS & fibromyalgia, you can get a good night's sleep. Click here to see how.

If your mind is wide awake at bedtime after being exhausted all day, you may have your day/night cycles reversed. This can cause adrenal cortisol hormones to be too low during the day and too high at night. This problem can be helped with a new herbal mix called “Sleep Tonight!” If you have this “wide awake at bedtime problem," see More Help for Insomnia.

For overall herbal help getting a great night's sleep, my favorite is the Revitalizing Sleep Formula. This mix of 6 herbs works well with the first dose, increases in effectiveness over time, and can be used regularly or as needed.

Isn't it time you got a great night's sleep?

Sleep: Research Briefs

We are a sleep deprived society, having gone from an average of 9 hours a night 100 years ago to about 6.5 hours a night in 2008 — and even less for many of you with insomnia from CFS or fibromyalgia. But you can get your 8 hours a night, and will feel better and be healthier for it!

Feel Free to Nap without Guilt: It Actually Improves Memory!

Historically, naps after lunch (i.e., taking a siesta) used to be more the rule than the exception. Then we moved from working out of our homes or farms into offices and factories — where a mid day nap was seriously frowned upon. Now that the Internet age (and kids being at school) has more people being at home after lunch, maybe taking an afternoon nap should be "rediscovered." New research suggests that taking a nap may improve a sophisticated kind of memory that helps us see the big picture and get creative. Read more »
