hi everyone,
my name louisa and I live in England. After a campilobacter infe tion 6 years ago and gastrointeritus 5yr ago I started to develop chronic fatigue had all tests gastrointerologist said leaky gut! Have tried anti candida 3 times now first time made me feel great but went off rails after a holiday! Been back on since may and still feel rotten! Immune system in the toilet amongst other issues!
Really would like to see a 'proper' specialist in leaky gut and candida that dosent just diagnose but helps cure in natural way, know of anyone or got any good ideas?!
Any help advice much appreciated :)
louisa

Hey Louisa, & welcome to the forum...

My problem was MCS so I don't have much advise. I just wanted to welcome you aboard.

Doctors couldn't help me... I had to find my own cure. This forum helped a lot, but it still took over 2 years of research before I struck on my cure.

You just got to keep digging and learning and trying different things till you find what works for you.

Best of luck to you, GodSpeed, and

Cheers!

Hi Louisa,

Good to have you with us on the forums :)

I was diagnosed with ME/CFS 19 years ago when I was 12 and gut issues have (and continue to be) one of the major problems for me - unfortunately they are difficult to rectify once things get badly out of balance due to acute infections, antibiotics etc.

I am actually encouraged that your gastroenterologist diagnosed leaky gut as this is still not widely recognised. Was this an NHS referral?

Believe it or not the gut contains around 70% of the body's immune system in terms of the ammount of immune cells and tissue. If your immune system is not functioning well therefore, you are very likely to have problems with bugs in your gut...which lead to leaky gut and all that follows.

The key to recovery then, along with doing a low carbohydrate diet, taking antimicrobial medications/herbs/supplements and probiotics, is to try to improve immune function. Key areas to look into would be hormone levels (particularly thyroid and adrenal), potential nutrient deficiencies and food sensitivities, and your level of toxic exposure and ability to detoxify toxins - heavy metals such as mercury are particularly damaging to immune function. Chronic infections such as viruses (e.g. Epstein-Barr, Human Herpes Viruses) will also impair immune function so it would be good to test for these.

Where abouts in England are you? I have just completed a degree in nutritional health at the University of Greenwich in collaboration with the UK College of Nutrition and Health (BCNH) as part of my training to become a Nutritional Therapist. One of the lecturers on the course who specializes in gut dysbiosis, leaky gut and detoxification was a Belgian doctor called Georges Mouton. Dr. Mouton sees patients in London and would be worth making an appointment with in my opinion. His website is http://www.gmouton.com

Good luck and let us know if you have any more questions and how you're getting on!

thank You soooo much for all of your comments! The website for that doctor dosent show what is it again?
I lve 9 miles west of Windsor.
The gastrointerologist was on private but he also sees Nhs patients. He said this about 3 yr ago now. I'm on an anti candida diet and take grapefruit seed extract, marshmellow root, l glutamine, slippery elm, plantago, adrenal tonic, immune defense herbal formula , milk thistle, skullcap, multi vit and vit c!!! so not much....mmmm
last few weeks been heaving most mornings and bringing up bile with nausea. Fluey feeling too so either it's a bug in their or some sort of reflux.
Just be nice to be normal again! Whatever that is!
I'm starting remedial yoga classes in September I got a feeling this is really going to help me especially my levels of anxiety at the mo.
Really appreciate your help and advice helps to know you are not alone!

You're welcome Louisa, glad to help if we can!

I'm not sure why you can't see Dr. Mouton's website. I just checked the link I put in my previous reply and it works for me...try it again and let me know if you still don't see it.

It sounds like you're taking lots of things that should help but a doctor who practices functional medicine and is also expert in gut dysbiosis such as Dr. Mouton will be able to do specialist tests and prescribe supplements and possibly prescription medicines that will be tailored to your specific problems. He has a clinic in London.

What you're doing now is a good general protocol but you may need various things that a more powerful in terms of antimicrobials, balancing hormones and stimulating immunity that only a medical doctor can provide.

Yoga classes are a great idea, good to hear you'll be taking those next month. I have been practicing mantra meditation for a number of years and started doing gi gong this year and both are VERY helpful...in all areas of life. You really have to try these things to understand what they can do for you. Yoga will likely bring the same benefits. I once tried it myself but didn't have the patience to learn all of the asanas (poses) - I was trying to learn from a book though! Good luck with it :)

Afternoon!
Yes looking forward to the yoga the good thing about this class is that it is for people getting over conditions or for people with anxiety. so think it will be good as it will be more relaxed and less harder than the other yoga classes out there!
I would love to see G Mouton (saw his website I was being stooopid) only thing is (and rightly so) his charges are sooooo steep :-( and thats just for one hour consulation without the tests. I am regsitered with nutritionhelp.com/ and they do tests too which may work out cheaper....but then I really would like to see an 'expert' cause as you say he is a doctor and specialises in the area I need expertise in!
maybe i will win the lottery.........
