I have tried several brands and reacted to several of them, including the Austin. To me, it smelled like bandaids. Also, the potassium permanganate that some of the companies put in the carbon makes me feel horrible. I have had great success with the Airpura C600. No reaction at all. Also, EL Foust sells a really good one at their website, and they will let you test out carbon. Carbon can be tricky. Theirs is more labor intensive, because you have to assemble it. Or at least you used to have to.
Good luck!
