What is the Best Natural Dog Food?

Calling fellow dog lovers!
We have a 10 month old chocolate Labrador named Jenson who seems healthy enough in himself but we've noticed a few things since we got him as an 8 week old pup that makes us think he'd do better on a different food. For example, he always has a lot of discharge from his eyes and we've read this can be the result of poor quality food containing undesirable ingredients. He also injured his left shoulder falling on our tiled floors when he was very little and so a food that supports joint health would probably be a good idea - Labs obviously being prone to joint problems in later life anyway.
He was on Purina Beta Puppy (Large Breeds) dry food when we picked him up so we've stuck with that so far. Read some bad reviews in various dog forums so want a more natural, raw food for dogs that is filler-free alternative for our little (big!) guy. Can anyone offer any suggestions?
We're in the UK but please feel free to offer suggestions wherever you are for the benefit of other members. Thanks!
Whole Dog Journal puts out a list each year of the best dry foods. Hope the link works. If not, let me know.
